My adjustments are every 12 wks (at this point at least). I was braced May 24 and had my 1st adjustment this week. My next adjustment will be in November.

I have been wearing ceramic braces for 3 months and I now eat almost anything I want -- except biting into apples and I don't eat chewy candy. However, nuts, nachos, popcorn, etc. I eat but I chew slowly and only chew on my back molars. I agree with the poster who suggested giving yourself time to g...

I decided NOT to do extractions. At age 45 my ortho believes it may make my mouth droop prematurely. He started IPR yesterday and already I have seen some shifting. I think I will be very pleased with the end result.

Update -- power chains & IPR

Hello everyone, it has been a while since I last posted. This morning I had my first adjustment at the ortho after being braced for 3 months. I had power chains put on and the ortho did some IPR. The gaps between my teeth look a little weird but I can't really feel the power chains at all. I expecte...

Thanks for posting. This is a common question many people have asked here. Please let us know what your ortho's plan is to address your concerns. Good luck with everything.

Thanks for asking this question!! My friend who had braces about 15 years ago has forbidden me to eat popcorn when we go to the movies. Now I'll show her that I can eat away w/o harming my treatment.

Now if I can only figure out a way to have red vines again I will be in heaven.

First off, welcome! Like you I went back and forth on whether to get regular braces (ceramics) vs. Invisalign. I opted to go with regular ceramics b/c I wasn't sure I had the discipline to wear the Invisalign molds day in and day out for 20+ hours a day. I knew I was disciplined enough to do it most...

I can also relate. My teeth have never been super white and now they appear much duller/more yellow. I have upper and lower ceramics and it almost seems worse (than wire). I know we are not supposed to use whitening toothpaste at this point but I find that Tom's of Maine makes my teeth a little brig...

Already braced -- still on fence re: extractions

I've been in braces going on 7 wks and I'm still trying to determine whether to get extractions or not. The 1st ortho I saw said I needed them. The 2nd ortho said it wouldn't be necessary and that he could do IPR between the teeth to achieve good results so I went with the 2nd ortho. Well, now that ...

I felt the same way initially so I do understand. I just wanted my life back again...the ability to chew, swallow, talk w/o feeling the torture of the braces. I would read other posters saying "it will be fine" and frankly I didn't believe them. Then suddenly the soreness started to fade a...

I have been in braces for a little over 6 weeks and while I am SO happy I decided to get them (and my adjustment so far has been tolerable), I look forward to the day when my braces are off and I can see and feel my teeth again. I haven't been in braces long enough for them to feel like they are a p...

P.S. I also never thought I would be able to bite into sandwiches or pizza but I can, so now I enjoy eating just as much as I did prior to braces.

My threshold for pain is terribly low unfortunately and I was able to resume normal eating in about 10 days. Initially I gained weight b/c all the healthy, crunchy foods I normally ate were replaced with rich, high calorie soft foods (including cheesecake every night!) but now everything is back to ...
