Re: essix question
They'll do the impression of your upper teeth for your Essix after your braces are removed. Before my braces came off, they did an impression of the upper and lower arches for my permanent retainers and upper Hawley. Did your ortho say anything to you about permanent retainers? Maybe he is only goin...

Re: Teeth clenching
My oral surgeon actually regularly prescribes a two week supply of ativan for his jaw surgery patients to avoid this issue. I found that I would clench my teeth too and the ativan (lorazepam) really helped with it at night (and also helped me get a full nights sleep every night after my surgery).

Re: jaw shifting/loose? 8 months post-op
Hi Jonathan, I had the upper/lower jaw surgery too, just one month before you did. I have the same type of feeling in my left jaw joint. I started noticing it only a couple of months ago. I talked my my OS about it and he said it's because the muscles around my left jaw joint are still very tight an...

Re: Personal ladies question
I've got a vague recollection of someone saying they had to have a catheter when they had jaw surgery. Could that have anything to do with whether or not you can keep your underwear on? You can request not to have a catheter put in. For this type of surgery, it's really not necessary. A catheter us...

Re: Personal ladies question
Hey Littleviolet--When we send people off to surgery, we require them to remove all clothing, undergarmets included, as well as jewelry/all piercings. So, that rules out wearing a pad. As far as a tampon goes, I wouldn't want to leave one in for the duration of surgery, since leaving them in can le...

Re: bone graft, implants and diet coke
That's funny. I've had a bone graft for a my implant and implant was placed 2 months ago and I'm drinking a diet coke right now. Drinking flat diet coke might be best for the first few days after your surgery and implant procedures, but I would definitely rinse with water and then the medicated mout...

Re: Just had my dental implant placed!
So u get implants while Ur braces is still on? Cuz my ortho told me I might need one implant but I don't know if its during or after braces Yup and the plan is to take the mold for the crown as soon as my braces come off (in a month and a half or so). It takes about a week-a week and a half for the...

Re: Jaw surgery 2 weeks - need to decide Bimax or BSSO!!!
If you're worried about permanent numbness/nerve damage, there is a very very small risk of nerve damage during upper jaw surgery. It's a much smaller risk than compared to lower jaw surgery. It would help if you posted a picture if you want people's opinions. I had upper/lower jaw surgery and the u...

Thanks for the compliments! Only about 2 more months until my braces come off! I can't wait! I'm already asking my ortho about retainers and researching options for teeth whitening.

How much longer do you need them on? I'm about 7 months post-op and still have them too. I'm so jealous of all the people who got theirs off at 4-6 months! I still have another 2 months to go!shanalouis wrote:haha no the braces arent off yet

Re: Lefort 1/Patal Downgraft Surgery
Rigid fixation plates have eliminated the need to wire the jaws shut in most cases. You'll likely have heavy elastics holding your jaws steady. I had upper/lower jaw surgery and was told to keep my jaw bra that they gave me in the hospital on for the first 3 days to help minimize swelling. I was of...
