Re: New braces at 64 years old!

So great to hear that there even more of us over 60 joining the forum. I have had my braces on for over 20 months, and am hopefully getting near the end of treatment. I still am self conscious eating in public, worrying about food getting caught in my braces, but love the little intradental soft pic...

Re: Start of my braces journey at 66

Welcome to the group - I am 63 and should get my braces off in two months. I am so glad I went through this, even though there were tough days at times. Can't wait to smile for photographs! Don't forget smoothies, they help through the sore days and the days when you can't seem to chew. Things chang...

Re: Mom in braces at 42

Yes, it is great to see how many older people are now wearing braces. I got mine at 60 and have worn my full metal set for over 13 months. So glad I took pictures along the way because the difference is remarkable. You will find that eating gets easier and then more difficult and then easier again a...

Re: Braces at 50

Hi there, welcome to the forum. I was braced at 60, now 10 months in and pleased with the progress to date. I hear you about swallowing food whole, some days it is really difficult to chew food properly. Good thing our digestive systems are adaptable. Good luck in your braces journey and looking for...

Re: I'm 54 what was I thinking???

I am even older than you (62) and have been braced for 10 months, and am so glad I went ahead with the decision. I have the full metal and yes, there are some very sore days, but many more days when the braces are not a problem. Good luck with recovery from the surgery, that does not sound like much...

Re: Can you prevent yellowing of teeth below the archwire?

I have the same thing and was worrying that it was calcification, but when I went for my dental cleaning a couple of days ago, the hygenist told me that it was just normal staining. I am guilty of drinking coffee and tea (and red wine!). I plan to have my teeth whitened when the braces come off, and...

Cost is a deal breaker at my age - right

One more thing, don't know where you are from, but in Canada the cost of braces is a tax deductible medical expense, so that helps somewhat to recoup some of the money. Also, I was told that veneers do not last forever and need to be replaced, which would be an expensive outlay for the future when y...

Cost is a deal breaker at my age- right

I am over 60 and also initially hoped my teeth could get fixed with veneers and I had a hard time adjusting to the fact that orthodontics was my best option, especially the time involved - I am not getting any younger! My treatment cost is $5300, and my husband is also 62 and already retired so the ...

50 and getting braces

Good luck on your braces journey. I am 60 and four months into treatment - best thing I ever did. I am seeing a big improvement in my smile already. The initial four months have flown by and I have not had anything but positive comments from people. Good luck!

Adults - how do you cope?

I work in a professional environment and have full metal braces, the only option for me. When I first got my braces on, there were very few comments from people, however, I dreaded having to go out to dinner with a group of visiting business people - I suffer from anxiety like you. However, when we ...

Electric toothbrush heads

I have the Oral B Triumph with Smart Guide, and it apparently gives you a warning when you need to replace your brushhead, based on number of minutes used. So far I have not had to replace the brushhead, and I have had the toothbrush for two months, using it at least three times a day.
