Re: orthognathic surgery tools
I've seen a ton of (gory) videos online, and I seem to be missing something: for the precision required to get the results that are planned on a computer, what tools are used to move the jaws once they are cut? Also, how do these tools work? if the surgery is entirely pre-planned (some surgeons don...

I don't think you have a choice.
while you most likely don't need opoids at home (my doctor doesn't prescribe it), it is part of almost all general anaesthesias.

Thanks for the replies guys. Will discuss with surgeon at next appointment. @ Shutmymouth: I'm female and any tips greatly appreciated! Sams there is, but I've heard someone say you should wait at least a year before considering anything of that sort. http://www.realself.com/question/Alar-base-redu...

Re: do you get wired shut after lower jaw surgery?
depends on surgeon. it seems to depend somewhat on the patient, too, but mostly on the surgeon. I know a surgeon who wires all his patients and one who uses no wires, no elastics and no splint for most, and a splint for very few. they are within a couple of hundred miles. I'm not sure why they can't...

Re: How far apart should the upper and lower incisors be?
I"m a little confused - if your incisors don't touch how can you properly bite something thin? When I had my underbite I couldn't bite through certain foods because they were smaller than the gap in my underjet. Wouldn't the same thing happen with thin foods in an overjet? there can be an over...

Re: Talented surgeons and other questions
because of the language barrier european surgeons usually treat patients of their own country and are not known beyond that. I could tell you about a surgeon in my country with a focus on aesthetics, but then again, how would I know whether there isnt another one in norway who is better. there are h...

consider getting an extension, especially when you're eye is turning black now.
I feel like I was very lucky with how things went and I also didnt have a splint but I couldnt have gone to work at 1 week.
2 weeks, probably.

if your pics and my lack of knowledge about your functional problems dont represent your case properly I take back the "I dont think I would have taken the risk in your case"-comment.
everything else was just an answer to a question I was asked and not directly related to you.

Re: Is this normal or have I really screwed up my face?
qwertz1, why would you not have risked surgery in her case? something along the line of what hduggan said. I know several patients who have good results but they are still unhappy with it because they looked almost perfect before, and something minor they liked changed. so it is higher risk in thes...

although I dont think I would have risked surgery in your case, you are still visibly swollen, and not only residual swelling.
your upper lip, your cheeks...this will go away within the next 2 weeks, maybe 4.
the residual swelling that can take months is much less visible than yours right now.

only 4 lbs in 3 weeks so far.
I`m mostly eating joghurts and soups...and I`ve used a vegetarian restaurant a couple of times, which delivers a variety of soups, ice cream and some indian food you don`t have to chew
