I'm 52 and have had my braces 5 months now.
I have seen my teeth straighten in that time like I would have never dreamed possible.

Yes, yes, yes. It is so worth the initial pain and discomfort.

I was really in pain for the first week or 10 days. It got better but really, it took about a month before I felt like my old self. I would go on vacation and then get the work done. Why suffer on vacation when you can do that at home with your pillow and fuzzy slippers....

I have the cordless WaterPik and it has two speeds. I just go straight for the high speed as I want the food bits blasted out quick!

I've lost close to 10 pounds in the 3+ months I've had braces. I never thought in a million years I would be able to resist my favorite treats--candy and cookies, but since I got the braces on I decided to give them up, and I have with no problem (shock!) I hope to be down another 10 by the end of t...

Looks like I got one of the "skimpier" bags... One tube of Crest Total Health toothpaste One very small bottle of Crest mouthwash One "trial size" unit of Glide floss One toothbrush One generic sleeve of wax (which actually worked better than the GUM brand) and a list of forbidde...

My first attempts at flossing literally took 20 minutes. You'll get the hang of it, eventually. Don't give up! I', down to about 5 minutes now. I use the threaders you get at the drugstore. They work for me. I tried the floss with the stiff ends but it shredded really bad for me.

My favorite foods for the first weeks included: yogurt (lots and lots), scrambled eggs (lots), oatmeal, ice cream (lots), mashed potatoes, and cottage cheese. Hope this helps. You'll get used to it pretty quickly.

Hi and welcome, Charly. I'm closing in on the 3 month mark now. I'm 52 myself so I can only tell you that things do get better! I have horribly crowded teeth and have seen a lot of progress in 3 months. The discomfort was more than expected but I'm looking forward to having a nice smile at the end!

My problem is really overcrowded teeth. As I have aged, I came to the awful realization that my teeth were still moving closer to one another and starting to go off in weird directions. I finally had enough, and at age 52, I figured that I had better do something about it. I have needed braces for m...

I went on vacation right before I got braced.

I can't imagine going after getting braces! I was in a lot of pain for the first week and really couldn't eat. Not my idea of vacation fun, but I hope you have a great time in Cuba!

I wouldn't say I love my braces, but I do love what they are doing for my awful looking teeth. Don't get discouraged!
Pretty soon you will be used to them and you won't notice them so much.

sjd--I'm not sure why you have a wire in the roof of your mouth. Is this a mistake? You shouldn't really be in pain like that. If you just got braces within the last week or so then trust me, things will get better. I know that is no comfort when you are in pain but sometimes it helps to think of th...
