Re: New and very confused

Good luck to you. I am not familiar with Damon braces. I can say that I had metal braces at 13 and ceramic braces at 36. They both caused some irritation on the cheeks, though not much. The metal were much easier to get off. There was a lot of tugging with the ceramic. It felt like my teeth were goi...

I only have a bonded retainer. If it matters--I'm 37 and had full braces from 13-16. I had a removable upper retainer that I stopped wearing shortly thereafter. My bottom teeth crowded, so I just had lowers for the last 9 months. My long-term plan is only for a bonded retainer behind my bottom 6 tee...

New Fixed Retainer

I got my braces off yesterday and had a fixed retainer placed behind my lower front teeth. It is a small chain-like piece that looks harmless enough. Well, they have to attach it with several globs of glue...so in your mouth, it feels intrusive. I'm betting I'll get used to it, but on day 2, it does...

They're off!

I just got my braces off yesterday and thought I'd post my experience. I know I was curious about debanding while still in them. I have a permanent retainer that I'll address in the life after braces forum... I only had a lower set: 4 metal brackets, the rest ceramic, no molar bands. The metal brack...

Ditto. I was excited to have them and now I'm done. They aren't terribly bothersome, but the novelty has worn off. I've had them on for 7 months. They should be off in 2 months--maybe that's why I'm done because I see the finish line on the horizon. Sigh.

Good luck! I am 37 and have had ceramic lowers since Feb. My decision was strictly for appearance--the front four were crowding. My ortho was a referral from my dentist and he has never made me feel bad for my decision. Makin' teeth look good is his business! I figure since I am an adult paying for ...

I am 37 and have braces on my bottom teeth only. My top teeth look fine and my bottom teeth were crowded. Six months later, they are very straight and I'll have the braces off in 1-2 months. Piece of cake! I even got the clear ceramic braces. No one really notices I have them as my teeth don't show ...

Think long and hard about this because....IT'S FREE. What a nice gesture on his part. Gain strength through your children. They are doing it--you can too. It will be a temporary part of your life and you will love the results.

My braces (lower only) have been on for 6 months. My ortho should take them off in 2 months depending on what my x-ray next month shows. He's waiting on one stubborn tooth--though if you ask me, it looks fine. The top line of my bottom teeth are slightly off, so he will file them a bit for a more st...

I recently had a tooth bonded (lateral incisor). It was small and slightly crooked. It looks great...and straight. I am very happy with the results. My insurance company covered it. It was $100 per corner, so $200 total ($0 out of pocket).

I thought my young daughter's teeth looked crooked and when I took her to the ortho he said "her teeth look great." I questioned him and he said he sees all kinds of teeth and so, to him, hers are minor in comparison. My point is, orthos have seen it all. They're in the business of fixing ...

That's what I was thinking. You aren't creating a space by thin or thick floss, you are cleaning your teeth and all that is sitting between them. Your gaps are there regardless. You should inquire about powerchains to close the gap. I had gaps created by IPR and two sets of powerchains to close them...

As a teenager, I had to wear braces from age 13 to 16 1/2. Not fun. I don't think they even did "phase I and II" back then (I'm 37). My daughter is 7 and I took her in for a consultation. They did x-rays and found everything is coming in fine. She will need a retainer for a slight crossbit...

I had x-rays done at 5 months to check the roots to see if he had to make any adjustments to get the teeth positioned properly. I am now at 6 months and he said he wants to take another x-ray on my next visit. I should be done at 10 months.
