My ortho had braces when I started my treatment with her; she's moved on to retainers now and I'm jealous! Her assistant has braces too. I find it very heartening, because when they tell you what to do/expect during your treatment, they're speaking from personal as well as professional experience. O...

Hi, have you tried asking another ortho? Maybe get a consultation with someone else and see what they say. I have a similar problem with my front teeth; I've always felt they don't show enough. So part of my treatment is to extrude all my upper teeth. I'm wondering why your ortho brought your teeth ...

Thanks all, sounds like I have a lot of fun to look forward to... :? oyyyy...! Oh my goodness Jen8626, well done to you for putting up with elastics all the time. I'm just hoping by the time I have to do that rather than just at night, I'll be used to the bizarre discomfort they cause (nearly caused...

My first power chain... OW!

I had a power chain put on yesterday to close up some gaps opening up across my 'social five' (I'm missing a lateral incisor!) and the ortho's also given me some elastics to wear at night - although I'm going to have to phone her today to check which ones need hooking up because I've already forgott...

Thanks merrykate and ken for the good wishes and advice. It's been a while since I've been on the boards (real life has been getting in the way. Pah). Currently the inside of my mouth is ripped to shreds! Just another of those phases of pain/piles of dental wax/salt water rinses; this one's been goi...

Good for you, Maggi :) Amazing how quickly you can grow to tolerate them, isn't it. Now don't read too much into this, because every case is different, but I'm in braces to fix an open bite and I've already seen some difference after just a couple of months. My bite looks well on the way to closing ...

Eight weeks today, and there's some crazy stuff going on with my teeth - so far all of it's good, I hope! My top teeth are being extruded to make them more visible and close my open bite. One side has come down really nicely, but the other hasn't been as quick, so I'm looking quite wonky and have bi...

Hi there, welcome aboard :) Just had a look at your blog and felt compelled to add to your 'what I can't do with braces' post! I have ceramic self-ligating, top and bottom. My 'sentence' is about 18 months too, and I'm just a couple of months into it. I know what you mean about smiling broadly now y...

Apart from a 'braces buddy' in my office, who I now often share long braces-related chats with when we bump into each other in the bathroom for post-breakfast and post-lunch teeth brushing (although she has the more discreet invisalign, while I'm in brackets top and bottom so I'm pretty jealous of h...

Hand up over here :-1 Braced four weeks ago yesterday, ceramics top and bottom. They've been no trouble really, but last week I had my first adjustment and have just started to feel the effects of the thicker wires my ortho put on, especially on my top teeth. Am feeling lots of pressure in my jaws, ...

Hi beth1966, I chose ceramic brackets with ligs. Ceramic self-ligating weren't on offer. If they were, I think I would've liked the idea of those the best. But it wasn't to be... *sigh*

I was offered the choice of self-ligating or brackets with ligs. Invisalign was not an option in my case (I'm pretty sure I would have chosen that if it had been), but my orthodontist did give me a quote for lingual braces while at the same time warning me they might not be so effective for treating...

I really miss crusty, granary bread. But other than that, I've largely been eating the same things as I did before. Thought I was never going to manage pizza again, but had some last week with no problems... well, apart from probably looking pretty gross while I was eating it (I don't think I'll try...
