October 2011 Surgery Buddies?

Is anyone else scheduled for October surgery yet? I'm (finally) scheduled for orthognathic surgery on October 7, 2011. I'm having my pre-op appointment about 10 days beforehand. I also received approval from my insurance company a few days ago --I promptly put the letter on my refrigerator door with...

I would definitely follow up with the crooked tooth. After I got my first set of braces off, I had a slightly crooked lower tooth. Years later, several of my lower teeth were very crooked. I'm getting a permanent retainer after this round of braces.

I would get insurance before you start orthodontic treatment. I made sure that I received pre-authorization for my surgery before I had my braces put on because I didn't want to waste all that money only to find out the surgery wasn't approved.

I agree with the above posters - you should definitely ask your surgeon about the gummy smile. I haven't had surgery yet, but my surgeon has emphasized that different options are available, depending on what results I'm looking for and what how intense a surgery I'm game for.

I suspect this is common. I finally decided to have the surgery because I don't want to lose all my teeth early, but because of my severe overbite and asymmetry, I hate having my picture taken. For whatever reason, when I look in the mirror, I think that I'm attractive, but whenever I see a picture ...

Everyone agreed that I am not a candidate for Invisalign, so I guess I never had much of a choice! I recently met someone who had given up on Invisalign for traditional braces because they found it too hard to comply with keeping the trays in. I thought this was interesting and I think it would be a...

I use a Sonicare, which I love and which my dentist recommended. I've heard that some types of electric toothbrushes can cause your gums to recede, though. I would ask your orthodontist what the specific reason is for recommending a manual toothbrush over your electric toothbrush.

my overjet is 11mm and when my orthodontist explained what she could do without surgery, she said that it might result in my face looking flat :/

I had to pay $450 for records at my orthodontist's office, and then the orthodontist sent my records to the surgeon.

anyone have blood clotting problems?

I recently had a very short surgery and when I failed to stabilize after the surgery, blood clots were discovered in both of my lungs. Because I'm in my late 20s and don't have any risk factors, the doctors are still puzzled about why this happened. I'm on heavy duty blood thinners for a few months ...

I cried when I learned that I would need braces for two years as an adult in order to fix my jaw and save my teeth. And this was after I had braces for a few years as a teenager and knew that it wasn't so bad! I was worried about people being judgmental, especially at work, and I was worried that th...

oh, that sucks. can you use vacation days or anything instead? Where I work, we don't have sick days and only get 10 vacation days, so I'm planning on using all my days next year on my surgery, and I'm already worried that something will happen and I'll run out of days.
