Re: Jaw pain with retainers
They do not cover the biting surface of the teeth. I looked online and they appear to be 'hawley retainers'. As for my jaw position I can say that after taking them off, after sleeping in them, my jaw is a little uncomfortable and I cannot bite down properly. This lasts for half an hour or so. My or...

Re: Retainers after braces
Carl, I've been in retainers for almost 2 years and my retainers were included in the initial treatment cost, as was the regular visits during the 2 years after braces were removed. However, my ortho sold the business to another ortho and this new ortho recommended a different type of retainer which...

Jaw pain with retainers
I have had retainers for nearly 2 years but am recently experiencing pain and stiffness in one side of my jaw. I can't close the jaw completely at times (or chew effectively). I don't think my bite has ever been perfect from the time I got the braces off and suspect that I've had to push (or pull?) ...

Re: How are people coping with permanent retainers?
I'm with you so far xtc, I got my braces off recently and got the bonded retainers on the top and bottom arches, of the front teeth, and they are not bad at all. I was running my tongue all over them the first few days but I'm growing used to them now. I wear the essix on the top and bottom every ni...

Re: How are people coping with permanent retainers?
http://www.archwired.com/how_braces_work.htm Thanks for the responses. I did find the information I was referring to about how bone opens up and fills in (bone remodeling). It is actually right on this very website! See the above link if interested, it is a short explanation. It seems to indicate th...

Re: How are people coping with permanent retainers?
I am coming up on debracing soon. I have been offered the choice of permanent retainers or removables. With the permanents I will have to wear a removable one on lowers for 6 months at night. My ortho recently said I would have to wear them for life and I gasped a little and asked 'for life?' and my...

The ortho installed bumpers on two of my rear teeth to keep my top front teeth from hitting the lower braces. I was a little perplexed about what to eat after trying a few of my usual foods like salad and pasta. I now use my juicer to juice all my salads. I do this once a day and love it. Just feed ...

OsteoGo, I read some really great comments on your post here. Most of them ring true for me. As for me, I had thought about getting ortho treatment for years. Recently I felt that I was in a position to afford the treatment and I went for it and got the ceramic braces. I am SO glad I just went ahead...

I know what you mean about making your teeth longer! They call it 'blue bumps' in my case. They added some blue material to 2 of my back lower teeth so I can't close my mouth all the way otherwise I would hit my overbite front teeth on my lower brackets. This is the worst part of the treatment so fa...

Your new smile looks great, even perfect, to me. I agree with others that you need to give it time- it is just different for you and you will adjust to it in time. After getting braces recently I notice peoples' teeth a lot more and if I saw yours (new) I may wonder who your ortho was and hope it wa...

I asked my ortho about the disclosing tablets last week and they gave me some (Gum Red Cote). I have ceramics (Radiance). I tried one the other night and all the red disappeared after brushing 2 or 3 times. My tongue and lips were still a little red after finishing but it was all normal by the next ...

Are Electric Toothbrushes Really Better Than Manual Brushes?
I am new to braces (less than 2 weeks). I have ceramic uppers and lowers. My ortho told me that an electric toothbrush wasn't necessary. However, the other orthodontist I was evaluated by said they were a good idea. Does anybody have a strong preference one way or the other?
Thanks
