All the guys seem to say they help almost instantaneously! haha Yes, shorter shifts are a good idea. I suppose a large part will have to revolve around how long it takes me personally for my swelling to go down. What did you guys tell guests at your work? Like your short version? "Oh I had both...

Try massages. Any massage parlor is happy to have a therapist work on your neck/shoulder/jaw area and it can certainly help.

Your best bet is trying to research insurance companies to see what plans will and will not cover it by prior experience. Some plans are much easier than others.

Depending on your plan, the surgery will either be automatically covered (rare) or you will have to file for pre-authorization.

I think I am going to just stay with this surgeon. His price range is good and my old surgeon was a total jerk and twice the price!

Thanks for helping to assuage my worries!

Also, mountaingirl- I grind through mouthpieces and night guards after a couple weeks. Huge waste of money for me. My surgeon said I can get a splint made but they're like $500 so I am wary. Especially because he said if I get a splint before surgery, I would need to get a different on fitted after ...

My jaw surgeon steered me away from getting an optional genio, because he said I could lose some degree of feeling for the rest of my life.

I dont think having braces is that big of a deal and it certainly doesnt take up a lot of time. I work full time and am a full time student and I still have 20 minutes every 3 to 5 weeks for an appointment, etc. If you dont want it done right, then sure, ask for your braces off early. Your bite won'...

Im not sure if there is a pre-authorization required for my plan but I think so. My surgery is $20,000 and there is NO WAY I am taking the risk of getting stuck with the bill if they decide it wasn't medically necessary, etc. Also, I have heard that without a preauth, sometimes you have to pay up fr...

As requested... I can take a 500MG Methocarbamol (generic for Robaxin) every 8 hours. Its a muscle relaxer and really seems to help without me actually noticing. I just dont realize my jaw hurts. I also can take two 10MG Piroxicam (generic for Feldene) every 12 hours. They are supposed to help with ...

What country do you live in? I am pretty sure that the new healthcare reform bill in the US eliminated the ability of insurance companies to use the term "pre-existing condition". For example, BCBS denied me because my overbite was an "undocumented birth defect" rather than just ...

I have TMJ and my OS said my surgery will eliminate it. I grind a lot at night and I wake up every morning with a splitting migraine that follows me through the beginning of my day. Its so bad that even with taking Tylenol etc, I would have tears welling in my eyes from the pain. I couldnt stop clen...

I have Cigna through my work. I pay $40 a month.

My maximum calendar year deductible is $5000, so I'm saving about $25000 by working at my entry level restaurant job :)

Whatever is causing you pain is mechanical. A chin implant wont fix pain caused by mechanical problems. I used to have pain and it slowly turned to teeth grinding and my jaw surgeon says I have TMJ. If you have TMJ, surgery is probably a more realistic long term solution. In my case, the teeth grind...
