I am also approaching 3 months. My status: - things are getting normal - big improvement in terms of numbness - I would say it is 80% gone - I still got some swelling in the cheek area and it is worse in the morning - I'm eating pretty much everything I used to eat before the surgery - Still using s...

I had BSSO but was never banded shut.

I had to sleep in a reclined position for about 2 months. Everytime I tried to sleep normally, some swelling/numbness would come back.

Re: 2 week recovery??? surely not!!!

It really depends on the definition of 'recovery'. Some things will get better in 2 weeks but some other things will take more time. Swelling will get better in 2 weeks but for it to go away completely will take months. My energy level got better in about a month. For me the numbness almost went awa...

I hate the swelling part. I am almost two months post-op and still have some swelling (mostly in the cheek area). It tends to be worse in the morning. And I am still trying to sleep at a 45 degree incline. I wonder how long i will take for all the swelling to go away and when I'll be able to sleep f...

While I don't have any experience in double-jaw surgery, but I'll still chime in: 1) I don't think you have to know the medical terms. As long as you know what is being done and how, you should be fine. The medical terms help everyone to speak in a common language just to make sure everyone is talki...

Better to go with a proven approach than a new one. I do not know how this could be done in my case. My jaw was advanced 6-8mm and that could not be done without 17 months of orthodontic treatment because my lower teeth were slated forward.

I am 6 weeks post-op. I think I can travel at this point. But I only had the lower jaw surgery and have not had any complication so far. Now, with airline travel you have to deal with pressure changes at high/low altitudes and that can bother your TMJ areas but then again we have had people in this ...

Prescription pain medication can make you dizzy, so switching to Ibuprofen will help.

I was pretty weak the first week and somewhat better the second week. Make sure you get enough calories from your diet.

Wishing you a quick recovery!

Remember that during surgery your jaw will be cut in the back and then brought forward. When you are bringing it forward now to get a feel for your future bite, you are bringing in the whole jaw and also moving the TMJ joint. So, it is not entirely possible to mimic the post surgery situation. OS ma...

I had my one month post-op with the OS today and briefly mentioned your case. He told me he did not put any plate in my jaw, just screws. That was interesting to know, I thought I had plate and screws but I was wrong. I guess different surgeons do it different ways. Hang in there, I'm sure you'll st...

Under normal circumstances the screws and plates will be there for the rest of your life :)

They are taken out only if they are causing inflammation or are loose or are sticking out, etc.
