Re: It's Crunch Time - Do I or Don't I, Please HELP!!

I did jaw surgery for purely cosmetic reasons, and I am happy with the results. There are some potential functional benefits that could end up being important, but my main motivation was cosmetic. I didn't have unrealistic expectations about what I would look like after - I didn't think I would sudd...

Re: Long term breathing problems after surgery/intubation?

I thought I posted a reply to you, but I don't see it now. Sorry to hear what you're going through. I also have breathing problems post-op, mostly severe congestion at night. Every morning I wake up and blow all kinds of stuff out of my nose, and then I feel normal for the rest of the day. It is dis...

Re: Loose skin around nasiolabial folds due to maxilla impac

I had a 5mm impaction and I do believe that there is a bit of extra skin around my mouth now. I think that maybe it could be making my face appear a tiny bit older, but I'm not even sure. Either way, the benefits from this surgery outweigh that little side effect. My mouth area may look a tiny bit o...

My personal experience was horrible, but the horror only lasts for 1-2 weeks. What's 1-2 weeks to gain the results that you want? It was worth it for me, and I wish I had done it sooner.

You look very young and I say "go for it", because I got my surgery in January at age 37. I wish I had done it sooner. Yes it will change your life, especially at your age. (not sure, but you look young!) I had similar issues and I really like the change in my face. I still show a little g...

Well, I'm a wimp, but I would say that the first 24 hours were about a 9.9. After I got the NG tube out, and the nasal trumpets out, and the catheter torture over, things improved to an 8. As soon as I got home at 48 hours post-op and got hydrated and drank some Ensure, I made it to a 7. The next co...

I was banded for about 24 hours after my upper jaw surgery. He would have left them on longer but I was having breathing issues when I was asleep.

I am 9 months post op and not back to normal. I feel OK, but I have issues with sleeping (dry mouth), congestion, and a decent amount of numbness and stiffness. I am not enjoying these things, but I feel that my problems are a small price to pay for what the surgery did for me. Good luck with the re...

My nose is significantly wider after my Lefort procedure. I am not happy with it, but I will take a too wide nose over a gigantic gummy smile and lip incompetence anyday!

I was totally clogged for weeks. In the hospital and the first week were the worst and they kept me an extra night, b/c when I would fall asleep, with my mouth swollen shut, and my nose blocked 100%, I was essentially suffocating. They removed my bands so that I could breathe through my mouth. Every...

1. "long face syndrome" - long maxilla, gummy smile, lip incompetence, recessed chin 2. 99% for appearance purposes - 1% for prevention of problems down the road 3. NO! 4. Insurance agreed to pay 100% after getting the letter from my OS, however, it ended up being about 80% I do know of lo...

Thanks so much for starting this thread! I am SO THERE right now. I'm 5 months post-op, and I have 4 really sensitive teeth - so bad I can't brush really well. My oral surgeon sent me to the dentist, who had no idea. He gave me some gel and I've been using it, but not much has changed. Yesterday, I ...

Lovely, bb! I don't think that it is old blood, I think it is pure congestion. I haven't had a nosebleed since 3 weeks post op. The congestion follows the pattern of colds and allergies, except that it just hangs around forever and gets way worse when I'm lying down.
