Teeth movement even with retainers?

Hi all! I did invisalign and finished about a year and half ago. When I got done I also had some cosmetic work done (bonding to reshape teeth and gingivectomy) so my dentist did the retainers right in the office (I think those are essix retainers since the vivera are the ones right from invisalign i...

Re: How long did you wear your retainers?

I was also told for life - pretty much as long as I want my teeth the way they are now post invisalign. If I get too old to care what they look like or get dementia and forget to wear them (and at that point maybe wouldn't care/remember what they looked like anyhow LOL) that's when I'll stop wearing...

Re: Retainer hurts my gums!

Some orthos/dentists, etc take the time to make sure they are cut around the teeth or at least shorter and smooth, etc if they come in rough or too "tall", etc. I used invisalign for my braces and used my regular dentist as he was an authorized invisalign provider and had been with him for...

Re: 1980s attitudes about retention

In the mid 80's I had braces as a teen for about 3 years to correct an overbite and overjet (buck teeth). I wore braces, elastics and headgear (omg how I hated that contraption). Once they were off when I turned 17 I did the retainer at night for 2 years, after which point my ortho told me I didn't ...

Re: start of a crack in my essix

Mine has a small crack right on my front tooth - like you, even when I grind at night it'd be on my back teeth, not front. I just got new impressions today to get a new top retainer made. The molds from my last ones broke when they made the retainer. I didn't get mine from invisalign because I had s...

Essix retainer question

I have 2 really small splits in my essix retainer (top) - and I had this same issue with some of my aligners as well. I called about getting a new one and am waiting for a call back - I'm assuming they can use my molds from when I finished treatment to make new ones. I'm wondering if essix retainers...

Re: Finished a year ago, worried about teeth moving back

I wondered about this too. I got one set of retainers that was made by my dentist (not invisalign) as when I finished treatment I had a bunch of cosmetic stuff done - bonding, changed a filling, gingivecomy on 2 teeth, etc so there was no way my last tray would have fit until one came in from invisa...

Re: New; 2 more questions; weird shaped teeth & baby tooth

My two front teeth are bigger than the ones beside them - and the two on the right side were shorter than the left due to an incident with monkey bars when I was little that was never fixed. The gum line on those 2 teeth were also lower than the other 2. While invisalign straightened them, etc they ...

I'm 41 and just got done with my invisalign journey. Never too old in my book!

Re: starving versus overbrushing/flossing

I tended to be a grazer and have 3 small meals per day and a few snacks rather than 3 big meals. Instead of the snacks, I'd eat more at meals or eat a small dessert/snack after the meal. This way I was only brushing 4 times a day (first thing in the AM and then after the 3 eating sessions). I will a...

Re: invisalign and overbite

I had both an overbite and an overjet (buck teeth). I had traditional braces as a teen, in which they removed one molar from each side on top to make room to bring my teeth back as far as possible. At the time I was told that because of jaw size/structure, they couldn't entirely get rid of the overb...

Re: Freaking out! HELP!

I wouldn't worry either - the worst that will happen if you don't wear them long enough per day is that when you switch to your next tray it won't fit or be really tight and you'll have to wear your current aligner an extra week - or very worse case, have new impressions done and do what they call a...

Re: First Post & Ready for Invisalign :)

Congrats on taking the plunge! For cleaning what I did was brush them with the toothbrush/paste after I brushed my teeth (I use a soft toothbrush, so didn't need a different one for the trays, but if you use a med or firm bristled brush you would want a softer one for the trays) during the day and t...

Re: New Member Question

If it were me I would stick with tray 18 - as you said you'll likely have it out a bit more on vacation (I know I tended to wear mine less on special days/holidays or when away, etc). Plus depending on what the attachment is meant to do to that tooth, placing the attachment on partway through wearin...

Re: New Member Question

Do you see any places in the new uppers for attachments that you don't currently have? Anytime I had an extra thinner tray with my aligners it was the template for the dentist to put on a new attachment. They use the thinner flimsy tray to place/shape the attachment so that they don't risk breaking ...
