Re: tongue thrust treatment

Carolyn- I had a rough time with the spikes at first too. You really do have to make an effort to stick your tongue on the roof of your mouth to swallow. You will still slightly touch the spikes but it shouldn't hurt. If you attempt to swallow the wrong way and touch your tongue to the back of your ...

Re: what did you eat?

I had lingual posts on the back of my top front teeth but they were removed with my braces. Because you're so careful while eating in braces it's a little hard to get used to taking a big bite out of something and not worrying about breaking something. It gets a little easier each time. I do have to...

Re: what did you eat?

I had a whole apple (not sliced up) and corn on the cob! Yum! The apple felt really weird to bite into with my new bite, but I quickly got used to it. The corn on the cob was heavenly. I was debraced in January.

Re: Permanent Retainer is a PAIN! :(

I was just debraced last week and got a fixed retainer on the bottom and clear essix on the top and yes over the bottom too. My cosmetic dentist was very pleased I went with the fixed retainer and flossing is a pain but I love the fact those once super crowded lower 6 teeth have a very low chance of...

Re: General dentist to do periodontal surgery?

I would definitely talk to a gum surgeon. No matter how small of work you have to get done, it always best to have someone specifically trained in that ares to to it. I just got my braces off and need gum surgery over 3 teeth and my well experienced cosmetic dentist insisted the perodontist perform ...

Re: Did anyone get veneers after braces?

Illay- I highly recommend you tell your orthodontist early about your planned veneer. He/She will need to make room for the dentist in order for the new veneer to be proportionate to the surrounding teeth. Your ortho will probably want to talk to the dentist doing the veneer, even if it's 2 years do...

Re: Did anyone get veneers after braces?

If anyone is familiar with peg laterals, they understand the need for veneers after braces. It's not as if I just don't like the color of the 2 teeth or it has a chip, but they are about half the width and length of normal teeth. So even if they are straightened with braces, they will look substanti...

Re: Did anyone get veneers after braces?

For anyone who may be in the same situation I am, I am finally coming close to the end of my braces. My dentist and orthodontist have worked very closely together to get the spacing right next to the 2 teeth that will be veneered. The time line works as follows. Braces off. Dentist makes molds for v...

Re: Questions about teeth cleaning

Weird. I've had my braces on for almost 2 years and no one has suggested or requested that my wires be removed for my cleaning. I've had 4 cleanings all with different hygeniests, and they all seem to have no problem cleaning around the brackets or wires.

Re: Choice: ceramic uppers or metal? What did you choose why

I have ceramic on top and damon on the bottom. I'm torn as to whether I do the same again if I had to do it all over again. I would probably go for all metal. PRO FOR CERAMICS: 1) My metal brackets have doors, and a few like to get stuck at adjustments. It is very painful to have someone try to forc...

Re: Foods you try to get away with having braces...

Hahaha! I did the whole chocolate bunny thing over easter. I had to bite it on the sides of my mouth, but I sure did get it down. I'm feeling quite reckless these days, since I'm already 3 months over my original estimate in braces.

Re: tongue thrust treatment

I'm an adult with braces and I had no idea I had a tongue thrusting problem. But a few months into my treatment, I was advised I would need to re learn how to swallow. Even as an adult it is difficult to train yourself to do something different that you never had to consciously think of how to do. I...

Re: I SHOULD BE DEAD!

I was waiting on a train platform on April 12th, waiting to go work. In short, I was struck by a train traveling 130MPH. I can't discuss the specifics at this time. I suffered a severe knee injury and lost part of my right index finger as a result, but I'm still here. It's going to be a long road o...

Re: Did anyone get veneers after braces?

Well I'm hoping to get my braces off in the next few months since I'm already a couple months past my original estimate. Once I go through with the whole process I'll post back how it all went down in case anyone else has to get veneers after braces. A tip for anyone who is planning to get veneers, ...

Re: Foods you try to get away with having braces...

I've tried it all. Nothing is off limits and I've yet to break anything. The only thing that I can't physically eat is biting into an apple. But I bite into burgers, pears, and everything crunchy. If you're new to braces, once the soreness is gone, you can eat pretty much anything, just be careful.
