Wired Shut - Straw Recommendation
I am wired shut - now going on 4 weeks...out of a likely 6. I found this glass straw - very strong and wide, that has made my "eating" more comfortable. The straw is made to Corelle specs, so it is very strong with no chance of breakage. I use it for every meal, and wanted to share the inf...

I just had my surgery by Dr. Taub of Jefferson University Hospital Department of Oral Surgery in Philadelphia on July 22. They have been outstanding in every step of the way over the two years leading up to my procedure. I have always felt that I received a higher level of care and attention in a te...

I've been wired three weeks. The inside of my mouth definitely feels nasty, but I am constantly rinsing my mouth out after eating anything. Warm water seems to work best. This is in addition to using a Water Pik (on low, once your surgeon gives you the ok) twice a day plus brushing with a very soft ...

I had my upper jaw moved forward and am no longer using CPAP during my healing. I'm splinted and wired. I'll get another sleep study done in a few months, but my oral surgeon told me that by getting the upper jaw moved forward, the airway is opened up. I'm hoping that the sleep study will show that ...

Back to work
I had upper jaw surgery on July 22 and have been splinted and wired since then. I'm a realtor and appraiser and I'm working from home. Since I can't talk, I am very limited in what I can do at work so there is no point in going in. I am working from home and using email to keep in touch with clients.

Wired, but shifting
I'm also wired, but after about three weeks I noticed that shifting you are referring to. I'm going in tomorrow to see if they need to tighten things up.

Peanut Butter
I have found peanut butter to be a great addition to shakes! I had some natural peanut butter that I had to keep in the refrigerator, so it was very thick. I just scooped out what I wanted and microwaved it for about 45 seconds until it was nice and runny. When I finished that jar, I went back to th...

My initial concern was also about vomiting when being either wired or tightly banded. I told the anesthesiologist in both the pre-operative testing and the day of surgery about this. They told me that they would give me something during the procedure, plus post-op. I told them I was nauseous post-op...

Sleep
I did not sleep at all for the first two nights home. I was extremely fidgety, extremely anxious and not a happy camper. I called my doctor to explain and was give a prescription for an anti-anxiety medication. Taken before bed, I can now sleep through the night.

Smile - crooked
I can relate. I'm only about 2 weeks post-surgery, and my attempts at smiling are somewhat disturbing. The numbness, splint, and being wired shut don't help. I'm patient, though.
