Re: Surgery with Arnett/Gunson scheduled, no insurance. : (

Hey cvn, have you had surgery with them already? Im coming for an appointment with Dr. Arnett on 4th of April, traveling from abroad just to see him after two orthognathic surgeries also. I wish I had known about them before too. I would have payed happily. I have a few questions if someone could b...

Re: Surgery with Arnett/Gunson scheduled, no insurance. : (

Hi Californiakid, thank you so much for all the answers! really helpful Cvn, if you don't mind telling, what went wrong with your first surgeries? Your surgery with Arnett, Gunson, would you say sorted everything? Two years in braces seems a really long time. But maybe this was the problem for me. ...

Re: Surgery with Arnett/Gunson scheduled, no insurance. : (

I only went to Arnett after two failed surgeries, 14 years in braces, and 18 crowns. If I could do it all over again and my parents would have known better 18 years ago, I would have gone to them the first time around and saved a few hundred thousand dollars and a lot of pain and suffering. As it is...

My surgeon said a year before any helmets with chinstraps could be worn. YMMV.

Re: I chickened out of my first meeting today

Hey Aaron - this stuff can be really stressful. Do you have a family member or friend who can go with you and support you, at least to get through the appointment? I know this stuff is scary and not much fun, but the doctors will tell you your options and possible outcomes and let you decide what is...

I do. Drop me a pm with your email and I can send it to you. If you have a friend who is in a university, they should have access through their library as well.

Re: Surgery - Idiopathic Condylar Resorption

This is the study they're maybe referring to: Oral contraceptive pill use and abnormal menstrual cycles in women with severe condylar resorption: a case for low serum 17beta-estradiol as a major factor in progressive condylar resorption done by Dr Arnett and Dr Gunson in Santa Barbara. It's the only...

Re: only one day in hospital?

I was supposed to only be in for one night at Cottage too, but was still pretty unwell and ended up staying an extra night. Anthem paid for it, so don't stress about it. They'd prefer you to stay only one night, but they never complained about my second night (and they did complain about everything ...

Re: son going to Dr. Arnett 'cause his practice is the best.

Yeah my surgery was 9 hours with Arnett for my second redo. They did a great job. Just be prepared that being under anesthesia that long will really make him feel like death for weeks. I don't think I was back to being halfway normal for a good 6 weeks.

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe

cvn, I appreciate the invitation to answer questions. You've had three times the experience to share. Have you posted much about the original surgeries you had on this board? What were the issues with your previous surgeries? I'm a bit concerned about resorption, but I understand the surgeon's tech...

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe

It's actually my 3rd surgery. Good times (not really). I don't have a blog. It's not really my style. I'm happy to answer any questions. I wish we had gone to Arnett for my first surgeries, but that was 15 years ago and we didn't know any better. I consider the money well spent, especially consideri...

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe

Anthem paid about 20% I think out of the surgeon's fees for my redo with Arnett, but we're still appealing them refusing to pay for any part of the assistant surgeon's fees, and it's been almost a year since my surgery. We're on our second appeal. I could use that money - I wish they'd pay! :?
