I was rebraced for a little over a month in order to get the canine back into position, and my ortho also utilized IPR in order to make some room (she did this twice on the surrounding teeth). I've noticed a major difference this go-round as far as comfort when the braces came off and feeling like t...

Braces again?

Less than four months after the braces came off, my left canine has started to push itself back up into the gum and my lateral incisor feels like it is being pushed back and down. I'm assuming that I was not ready for my braces to come off after all. The bottom arch feels great and stable, but the t...

I feel your pain. I just got my braces off in late Dec 09 after a year of having them on and it's looking like I might need them again. I wear/wore my retainers faithfully, but my top teeth just aren't right and didn't feel right from the day the braces came off (one of my canines is pushing itself ...

I'm sorry to hear that your laterals are moving back up. If my canine did that, I'd probably cry. Did you find that it was kind of awkward to speak at first when your braces came off? Or am I just having trouble because one side is still kind of wonky? I'll be seeing my ortho next week, so hopefully...

I was in braces for approximately 12.5 months with ceramic uppers, all self-ligating. The reason I went in for braces was that my right canine had never fully come down because there wasn't enough room in the arch for it. This also caused the neighboring lateral incisor to be pushed back and my midl...

I'm sorry to hear that you're facing early debanding due to hygiene concerns. That can't be a good feeling. Some folks are more fanatical than others, but at the very least I think you should make an effort to do the following: - Swish water around in your mouth if you aren't able to brush after a m...

Debanded! (But I have a question for you guys)

I went in for an adjustment yesterday morning (or so I thought), but was surprised with the option to take off the braces! Of course, I was totally thrilled. While I'm very happy with the outcome, I am nervous about one of my lateral incisors. It is slightly tilted out, to the point that I can feel ...

It hurt a little more than I thought, but nothing awful. I just winced a couple times on teeth that endured the most movement over the course of treatment (both had ceramic brackets, which might have exacerbated the problem). I'd say, just communicate your concern to the ortho and let her know how u...

Do I ever feel your pain. I probably check a mirror at least ten times a day, each time half-thinking they'll be gone or magically finished.

I'm just over a year currently, so I hope to be done soon, but some pliers would be nice.

So true!

Also, don't come up to me at a bar and tell me I look like I'm 12 with the braces. Thanksssssssss.

One year in!

My one year anniversary in braces is December 13th (Sunday). Amazing how much has changed. I still have a powerchain on the bottom, and a partial archwire on top. One new thing - my ortho has been using bends in the wire to adjust individual teeth as needed. Particularly my canines as they're very p...

I'm commenting rather late, but congrats! My one year is on Dec 13, so I'm feeling the excitement too. I would love to be done in February but all my ortho will say is "You're almost done!"

Anyway, hope it flies by for you! :)

I know it seems like a scary, flippant answer when it feels like your tooth or teeth are going nuts - but it's true that sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. If I could show you some of the things my teeth have done along the way, LOL. Obviously, contact your ortho if you're super concerne...

I went through some of that too, and do now from time to time with strangers. Something like, "Were your teeth really that bad?" I know it's hard to take the plunge when you're self-conscious about your teeth already, but it is absolutely worth it. I'm a year in right now, and the difference is incr...
