Re: Equilibration - Anyone Heard Of This???
Hmm, strange that no one responded to you. I am due to have equilibration after surgery to better incuspate my bite. I have some under-developed mandibular teeth that will need to be slightly altered to create a good occlusion. But I don't know much about this procedure. My surgery is in January and...

paying in full / fighting insurance
Just a quick question, I was recently denied coverage for orthognathic surgery due to an exclusion. However, if I go ahead and pay for my surgery in full, am I automatically forfeiting my right to fight insurance? Will they be like, "oh, he already paid, why should we have to?" or somethin...

Re: A good smile can make all the difference.
I have not yet had surgery but I think you are on the ball. I get asked frequently by family/friends why I look depressed/upset/angry when I am none of those things. My relaxed face just sometimes looks that way as my soft-tissues (lips/cheeks/chin) are not adequately supported by my jaws/teeth. It'...

Re: My Hopeless Situation
The letter I received in the mail from A&G when my insurance denied me said that you owe the hospital fee upon admittance to the hospital. I think non-insurance people pay ahead of time as part of the deal between the hospital and A&G. They worked out this set price for the first night that ...

Re: My Hopeless Situation
You'll see them 2x before surgery. The first time at your initial consult before even getting braces and then again a few days before surgery when you are orthodontically-ready and you've paid the surgical fees. After surgery you'll prob need to stay in Santa Barbara for ~3-4 weeks before flying hom...

Re: My Hopeless Situation
The consult was $550.00 when I went and is probably still around that price. They will send you a detailed info packet in the mail where you can express to them all of your concerns about your bite/face. The consult is 3-4 hrs long and they do a Cat-scan/xray, soft-tissue examination, a digital pred...

Re: My Hopeless Situation
It sounds like Arnett/Gunson would be worth considering. They specialize in aesthetics and will be able to pinpoint what your exact problems (functionally and aesthetically) and can provide a solution that addresses the source of the problem and cuts no corners. Yes, they are expensive and since you...

Re: Does Jaw surgery to shorten face really work?
You can shorten the face skeletally via orthognathic surgery, but the soft tissue is where the limitations are. If you have a long upper lip, you'll only be able to impact the upper jaw enough to bring the incisor exposure within the normal range. That said, there are other things that can be done t...

Re: Anterior open bite has ruined my social life....
People who make fun of your appearance are jerks (I'd use another word, but I don't think it's allowed on here :P). I, too, was told I looked like a turtle through high school and college (even once by my own mother!) due to how out of balance my face is (very small, recessive jaws). They all claime...

To all freaked out about Arnett/Gunson's imaging, this photo shows the before, predicted, and actual results. As you can see, she looks much better in her actual after than the prediction.

Hey all,
Not sure if it's been posted already, but I found an interesting blog with a patient who recently had surgery with Gunson. She posts in high detail.

Re: contacting insurance
Thanks for that, batwing; it makes me feel better to hear that. I had a feeling they really did have it but maybe just aren't allowed to discuss it with patients while the review is going on because my insurance coordinator said she sent it a little while ago. Good luck with your surgery!

Re: contacting insurance
Ah ok, maybe the person I talked to just wasn't in the loop or something. Who knows. I'm sure Natasha will respond to me email tomorrow. I'm just getting anxious about getting approved because if I'm not, I wanna know sooner rather than later so I can figure out my other options. Congrats on getting...

Re: contacting insurance
Thanks, I called them today only to find out they haven't received anything yet. Natasha told me she was still waiting to hear back from them but if they don't have anything in their hands to review yet, thats a problem. I emailed her earlier just to see if everything was okay. I know she's busy and...
