Re: Will a bonded retainer prevent a second relapse?

I'm thinking this has more to do with ortho preferences and how (s)he was taught. My ortho told me 'they' don't like adults to be in upper & lower retainers, so she puts bonded on the bottom. I'd MUCH rather have 2 hawleys (or 2 essex, I suppose) than one bonded and one hawley/essex. I will ask ...

Wanted to post one more PRO for the ceramic: -they seem less abraisive/painful when rubbing against cheeks/tongue. I've had to get the comfort cover (you can buy it on the archwired store) for my bottom (metal) brackets and still use it at times -- and I'm 21 months into treatment. However, I don't ...

I have ceramic on top and metal on the bottom. Here are the pros and cons I can offer, but, again, like everyone has said, it all comes down to preference. At the end, I will also tell you MY preference. :) Metal Pros: -smaller bracket -ligs are easier to go around which causes a little less pain in...

An update that's been a long time coming

Hi all: It's been a long time since I've been around here. Just coming by to check in and say YES, I'm still a 'brace face' LOL. At my last appointment (Monday 4/26), I got molar bands put on my very last molars on the bottom. It would've been on the top as well, but the technician put the spacers i...

In need of your prayers

I know this isn't the right section for a post like this, but I know it is the most frequently visited section, so I hope the admin will please excuse my posting this one thing. Hi all...I don't post much but I wanted to post and ask you all for your prayers. My brother-in-law, Billy, was killed in...

At my last cleaning the hygienist said that even with hard core dedication to flossing and brushing, some people still have inflamed gums from braces. I expressed surprise because I was under the impression that any gum inflammation was bad--a sign that you were not keeping things clean enough. She...

Hi Fipo, Just a quick response to say that if you feel you need to brush because of food or whatever being in your brackets, you can ALWAYS rinse with water, or, better yet, get a waterpik and use that to flush anything that might be stuck OUT. However, it is VERY TRUE that brushing right away can d...

Magster...WOW!! Has it really already been 5+ months??!! I remember your first posts on here when you got your braces!! Congrats!! :) As for me, I just got my elastics last week and I've had the uppers on for over a year and the lowers about as long as you've had yours on. And, I'm not even SURE if ...

I feel like I totally rambled that question out (and yes, it really was only one question), so if it doesn't make sense, I can definitely try to clarify, but I think you can pretty much get the gist of it. I know there are questions people ask that I know the answer to now simply from having experie...

Question for veteran elastics wearers

I've been wearing my elastics (at night only) for a little over a week now and although semi-uncomfortable, it's really not too bad. However, I have a question about how it feels tonight. I just put each of them in and I have to say that the left side feels much tighter than the right side. It's sor...

I've had mine for however long my ticker says (I forget...LOL, but I know it's over a year) and my 'sentence' is projected to be 24-36 months (so that's 2 - 2.5 years). I'm PRAYING it's sooner, but know reality tends to disrupt that. I am hating having my braces...maybe it's because I never hated my...

tw - motrin contains ibuprofen; tylenol contains acetaminaphine. You could actually take them together or alternate them for each dose. But for me personally, I take ibuprofen because it tends to help reduce immflammation (swelling) and just seems to help me best. If you do take your vicodin, don't ...
