Re: When you just start to feel "over it"
Great thread! I've had braces for 21 months now with jaw surgery in between and I'm finally getting them off in 3-4 weeks. I never got used to them, I always felt self-conscious of my mouth and loathed all the crap that came with keeping them clean. Getting my braces off will be one of the happiest ...

Re: I need HELP....don't know where to go from here!
Go meet other surgeons, in particular one's with good reviews and who focus on the aesthetic aspect of surgery. You should feel comfortable with the doctor who's going to re-arrange your jaws. If it's possible, it wouldn't hurt to meet with docs outside your state. Some suggestions of well regarded ...

Re: Mentalis Muscle Strain??
Hi there! I have the exact same issue. I realize you posted this a couple years ago; how did your surgery go? I believe I had mentalis strain slightly before my surgery, but it is definitely worsened over time. My jaw surgery was over 10 years ago and my sliding genioplasty was approx. 5 years ago....

+1 for bmueller's post.
Research, research, research haha. I sought jaw surgery to correct my lip incompetence so naturally I know quite a bit about it.davinci7 wrote:How come I'm learning more here from my peers than from my doctors? How do you know all this stuff Reosity

Re: 2 months post op after lefort1 still have jaw stiffness.
Hi,
Without your bands in (if you wear them), open your mouth open as far as possible for 5 or so seconds then close down on your teeth gently. Repeat for 10-15 minutes, 2-3 times a day.
That's what I was instructed to do and it's working great.

Re: Five weeks post op and dissappointed
Hi davinci7, like azjaw said, your still pretty early in recovery so once your soft tissue settles even more and you get your braces removed, lip closure should be easier. However it's important to note that lip competence is just as much a function of your lower lip as it is your upper lip. For exa...

Re: Anxiety and Orthognathic Surgery
I am wondering if anyone here has had to deal with anxiety and surgery? I have pretty bad anxiety, especially when it comes to going through personal medical things/hospitals/etc which I will have to be dealing with when I eventually need surgery. I know it will all be worth it in the end, but I ha...

Re: Post op and struggling hard.

Use chicken or beef broth to mix mo...

Re: Post op and struggling hard.
Sorry to hear how hard it's been, I also had extremely difficult first week but it does get better. For the panic attacks, ask your doctor for a prescription of ativan, that should help. I lost 13 pounds in the first week after surgery so don't worry too much about the weight loss. Just try your bes...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Sorry for the late update but it's been a pretty miserable week. I have an above normal amount of swelling (it's so intense and significant that I can't look at myself in the mirror) and it's caused a lot discomfort the last couple days. Surgery went well though and my doc was happy. I'm just taking...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Hey BracketBaring my surgery's on the same day, are you having upper and lower? Oh and I loathe the surgical hooks, I've had them for 2 weeks and they've constantly irritated my lips. While I doubt I'll be more thrilled when I see the aesthetic results after surgery, the day I get my braces off will...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Great to hear everything went well mia. Did you have upper only or double jaw surgery? I'm leaving for cali tmrw morning (my docs out of state) and I'll be there for 3 weeks before I'm cleared to go home. It's a relief to read you're all doing well and the hospital stay wasn't too bad, that's my big...

Re: July 2013 Buddies
Good to hear your doing alright, sorry to hear you may need additional surgery. Was your stay in the hospital that bad? I've heard repeatedly the first day and night is the worst.
