Re: opera^gal's story
Back from my cleaning...not too much in the way of scraping to be done, which is good!!...did discover some bonding on my right top incisor had gone missing, but minor enough that it doesn't need to be redone at this time...completely normal x rays of my completely normal healthy teeth...some polish...

Re: opera^gal's story
In a week, I go in for my normal dental cleaning/check up. The pesky molar still has some bad days, but also has some non-reactive days..so I'm at a loss as to what might be next. I've been using a sensitive toothpaste from Germany, with a different type of ingredient list than all the US versions, ...

Re: opera^gal's story
hey lilone: the splint is very much like an essix, only I believe the thermo plastic is thinner, as it isn't for long term use...yes, things are less sensitive with it on, but it isn't nearly as good at retention as the hawley. Will make a decision on the filling when I speak with the dentist in a f...

Re: opera^gal's story
No change in the molar issue, and I'm not rushing to do anything at the moment. Have a cleaning in early Sept..will talk about it then with the dentist. Had a tooth/retainer nightmare last night, after going back to the hawley top and bottom. In the dream, my teeth felt odd after removing the retain...

Re: opera^gal's story
Back from the follow up with the endodontist, who once again had me bite down a gazillions times...still no evidence of anything to warrant a root canal :jump: . I told him that the new full coverage retainers are giving me complete relief from the metallic taste and sensitivity on that pesky molar,...

Re: opera^gal's story
Forgot to mention, I was able to keep my plaster impression of the top arch, so if I need to *point out* any further sensitivity to a dental professional, I can do so on the impression, and not with a finger in my mouth

Re: opera^gal's story
Ortho retainer check took over 2 hrs this morning :yikes: . Not the fault of the ortho in any way, shape or form. She checked the Hawley and said before making ANY changes to a perfectly fitting appliance, she wanted me to wear a clear 'splint' (aka vacu-formed thermo plastic deal) until I see the e...

Re: opera^gal's story
First the good news: endodontist checked the pesky molar with cold, biting down, X-ray, and found no crack and no need for a root canal :jump: . Bad news: he isn't sure why I have the metallic taste and minor sensitivity. He suspects there *might* be a microscopic bubble between the layers of the re...

Re: Tonsils out and Hawley Retainer
Always good to keep your ortho in the loop. I think it was a day or two post-surgery before I resumed retainer wear, but at that time, mine wasn't for retention purposes.

Re: Tonsils out and Hawley Retainer
No worries about your voice changing, as no one is operating on your vocal folds. Do tell your anesthesiologist that you are a singer and ask them to be extra careful placing any tube into your trachea. I had my tonsillectomy mid-career and was wearing a hawley at night for bruxism issues. I had no ...

Re: opera^gal's story

Re: opera^gal's story
Went with my fella to his cleaning at the dentist, and when he was done, she pulled me into the chair to check that sensitive molar. It was still zinging a bit, so she retreated it with the sealant, hoping that will do the trick. It's a good tooth, in her words, and she will try everything possible ...
