Helpful Hints

I just discovered a neat way to keep wax handy, probably for ladies only. Use an old blusher compact with the makeup taken out. Put the wax in where the makeup used to be, and voila, you have a mirror to use to place your wax without having to go to the bathroom.

I've had them since 1/26 and can tell my teeth have shifted. My bottom front are closer together, and my top two are almost overlapping. They feel different too; i keep running my tongue over the rough spot where my two top teeth are butting together. My one crooked tooth looks a little straighter.

I agree, the placement is the hardest part of molar bands. I had five placed yesterday and it seemed like it one was going to go right through my jaw and draw blood. Now it's not so bad.

"Ok then Mr perfect lets have a look at YOUR chompers then!" The smile vanished from his face in an instant but I was still able to make out his jagged ciggie-stained teeth, and took great pleasure pointing them out to everyone else. No more comments from him since   I like ...

How juvenile!
Makes me wonder if such people would take bets on what to nickname someone who comes in with leg-braces or hair-loss from chemo?

Still, I agree with the previous poster--talk to your boss and politely say you are not amused by this and wish it to stop.

Annoying front-tooth overlap

I assume this is due to the spacers, but my front teeth have pushed closer together so they're almost overlapping. It really bugs me because I keep running my tongue over the sharp spot where the two teeth meet. Wax seems to help, but not during the day when i'm eating and drinking. Will this...

OralB Super Floss seems to be tops in my teeth so far. I hate those threaders that you have to finagle the floss around. I also got a floss pik ($7.99 at CVS in PA), and that does OK.

I've had my spacers in 3 days and my mouth feels almost normal. Still can't chew much more beyond soft pasta, beans and the like. Those first two days though were rough.

Have any of you taken Advil PM? Is it just me or does it knock you out more than its Tylenol counterpart?

Hi! I had spacers put on yesterday (see the post "spacers worse than actual braces?) Definitely take some sort of OTC pain med, either before or immediately after the appointment. If you can tolerate benadryl (diphenhydramine); take Advil or Tylenol PM at night to help you sleep. Count on eatin...

definitely soft foods

Luckily I like my Frosted Mini Wheats mushy. My top front left incisor is the most painful. I guess my ortho did things a little backwards. I had brackets and archwires put on Jan. 26, but they couldn't put the spacers on at that time. I have these rubber-washer things between my back teeth until Ma...

spacers-worse than actual braces?

I had spacers put on this morning (three on both top sides and two on each bottom side). Agony. In a case of bitter irony, the song on the radio during this torture was "Hurts So Good" by John Cougar Mellencamp. The techs and other patient got a laugh when I pointed that out. What a...

teeth feel funny--are they moving?

My top left canine has felt weird for about a week, like there's something stuck to the back of it (there isn't) or there's a groove or crack (I don't see any). When teeth move, do they feel different afterward? I've only been braced since 1/26, so I doubt any serious movement has occurred.

Should add...

that I use the store-brand of the Colgate 360s, which are nearly identical and cheaper.

Count me in as a manual brusher. I currently use the Colgate(?) 360, with the multi=length bristles. I brush upper and lower fronts, then backs and bite surfaces, rinse and spit. Then I use the interdental/go-between to do some extra cleaning under the braces and in any tough spots. I try to floss o...
