Re: One month to go
Congrats on the upcoming debonding. As for retainers, there are pro's and con's to each type. I had both Essix and Hawley after my last round and will be getting both again. Some people find the bulk/visibility of the Hawleys unmanageable, but they don't seem to bother me. The Essix are certainly mo...

Re: Extended treatment
During my previous round, treatment time was estimated at 18 months but took 30. There was no additional charge. My current round was estimated at 12 months, but I'm now in month 28. There's been no mention of additional fees (although I will be paying for an extra set of retainers).

Re: braces to go back on- 3 weeks after taken off!
Wow rubyteeth, that's unfortunate that your tmj issues have returned, but good to know that your ortho plans to make things right. There are other board members who are back in treatment after recent debondings...perhaps they may have some insight. I too am an adult relapse case, although my situati...

Congrats cbraces678...your teeth look fantastic! Curious as to which type of removable retainers you received?

Re: Post Your COVID-19 Orthodontic Stories or Concerns
My April appt was canceled (as anticipated), but have since been notified by my ortho that they hope to resume seeing patients in 2 weeks. I live in an area that is still mostly in lockdown mode so we shall see. Since my last adjustment, the bite on my right side has gone completely off the rails......

Re: Post Your COVID-19 Orthodontic Stories or Concerns
I was notified by my ortho’s office that they would be closed for at least the next 2 weeks and hoped to start rescheduling appointments the 2nd week of April. I greatly appreciate their concern for the welfare of patients and staff, especially since close interaction seems to be a primary method of...

Congrats on your decision to move forward with treatment...the time will fly by. As you've discovered, no one really cares about adults with braces so enjoy that college social life!

Re: Braces for the third time
Brief update: Now in month 20 and still in braces. A few months back had some ipr and 2 stainless buttons put on the lingual side of the upper right molars and connected via a loop of powerchain to help correct the rotated 2nd. They took some getting used to but seem to be working, albeit very slowl...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead
Treatment timeline dodging must be part of the ortho college curriculum because they all seem to have mastered it. In fact, I was given a nearly verbatim response from my ortho during my previous round of treatment…I am now properly trained not to even ask…ha-ha. In fairness, I guess there’s no way ...

Re: Ligature wires vs elastics
I've had both during my treatment depending on the movement desired and currently have wire ligs (ties) on my upper arch. Not sure if I have a preference, but the wire ligs take much longer to apply and remove than the elastic variety and they seem to collect more food as well. All the Best, Jethro

Re: Hawley wire pressing on gum line
I wore an upper Hawley retainer for several years after my prior treatment and never experienced what you're describing. Sounds like it doesn't fit properly and needs to be adjusted. As for the Hawley/Essix combo, it seems fairly common but I would suggest seeing your ortho to discuss both concerns....

Hey tayces, congrats on starting your treatment. As for the proverbial ceramic vs metal decision, they are both good and will both get the desired results, it's just a matter of preference. Here's a recent threat on this topic: https://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=54271&p=50...

Re: Can’t find an ortho to actually fix my bite...
Hey SG4, I would suggest having additional ortho consultations to find one who will provide a comprehensive treatment plan to properly resolve your concerns. In my experience, alignment/bite issues only get worse over time, especially with no retention. I know how frustrating this can be as I too am...

Re: "What A Long, Strange Trip It's Been" - Robert Hunter, Grateful Dead
Hey Sink, Don't think I'd be keen on being a case study either as psychologically I would probably construe this to mean something abysmal had occurred. "Interesting" definitely belongs on the ortho translation thread. I would also like to nominate "buttons", as in: "I'm goi...
