Re: Schwartz Expander Problems

You really need to ask your ortho, but until you hear back, I'd assume 24 hours a day (except for eating) probably for several months at least. At which point you might be able to shift to nights-only. (For adult jaw expansion, you will probably be wearing a retainer at night for the rest of your li...

Re: Ramblings On Avoiding Exaggeration, Quackery and Malpractice

A skilled orthodontist is rather unlikely to just accept the default plan that invisilign throws together, and there are lots of modifications that can be made to improve the overall outcome that involve records Invisilign doesn't even have. Invisilign will produce trays for anything that's sent in,...

Re: How Strong Is The Bond To The Tooth On Self-Litigating Braces? Can I Attach A Reverse-Pull Headgear To Them?

I'm not sure I fully understand. You obviously have an actual orthodontist treating you already. Why are you proposing to jury-rig a change to your treatment plan? (I presume without the buy-in of your ortho) I'd say the likelihood things will go horribly wrong is a lot higher than the probability t...

Re: How many extractions?

My ortho says I need 8 extractions because I have a small mouth and an oversized tongue. Ok, please think about it twice! I mean, small mouth and oversized tongue AND your ortho wants to make your mouth even smaller with 8 extractions??? Not an ortho here but to me that spells future disaster in te...

Re: How many extractions?

While extractions aren't as common as they used to be, it's still pretty normal for teeth to be pulled. The most common teeth to extract are pre-molars and wisdom teeth.

Re: One more with extraction doubts...

..yes ..according to my opgs, i have 2 wisdoms still totally inside gum and one is exposed. also all 3 are inclined towards front so more likely they are not going to come out itself and if they come out thay are facing towards the molar before them hence pushing them to get lean forward too..which...

Re: One more with extraction doubts...

If you are already having braces done for overcrowding, it is rather unlikely your wisdom teeth are going fit.

Re: One more with extraction doubts...

Hi all, i am new here, and i am 24 years old and decided to get braces, as I have upper right impacted canine. also my lower jaw teeth are severely crowded so I was also adviced that I am needed to get 2 lower premolars (one fron each side) removed to reveal the crawding. I have already taken advic...

Re: Cant close my mouth naturally after double jaw surgery

At only six weeks post-op, it's too soon to tell what the final result will be; you still have significant swelling left over from the surgery. What movements were made? In any case, I went through my entire life before surgery with "lip incompetence" and nobody ever mentioned anything abo...

Re: Crooked teeth after jaw surgery

It's not unusual for the ortho to have some work to do to fix some side-effects of the surgery and recovery. For me, the upper splint intruded my molars so I "lost" my bite; six months of additional ortho work before retention cleared that right up.

Re: Advice for eating with molars?

I wonder if your ortho could affix a band to the troublesome front tooth instead of relying on just that bracket. (It might have to be fabricated or special-ordered, since it wouldn't be surprising for a non-molar band to not be part of your ortho's regular stock.) I know that before modern cements,...

My 2-piece LeFort totally helped out my airway. The idea that I could breathe through my nose during exercise was a complete non-starter before.

This is a good question for your ortho; he/she knows how much "pressure" your teeth are under to fill that gap. Definitely call the office...
