I just got elastics (Class II 3/16 4.5 ounce) on March 5th. I also got a monster powechain attached on my bottom teeth to close up some gaps that had opened up. Initially, they hurt quite a bit (particulary one of my bottom teeth, which had both the powerchain and an elastic attached) and the pressu...

I was shocked more by how they felt than how I looked. I knew my teeth were crooked so I wasn't surprised that my wires and brackets were crooked too. I guess I just didn't expect them to fill up my mouth the way they did (and mine are self-ligating so they are small!). I did think that they made me...

I have speed brackets now and will get Suresmile archwires 6 months into treatment. I am paying $7200 and that includes 8 lost/popped brackets (5 per 12 month period and he estimates my treatment time to be 16-18 months), all x-rays and visits, and my retainers and follow-up visits. I live in a medi...

My partner and I pretty much budgeted to get the braces. I was going to purchase a new vehicle this Fall but opted for the braces instead. We already run a pretty tight ship so it isn't cutting into our savings at all. While insurance doesn't cover the cost, I am blessed with a very good job and a s...

Congrats on being newly braced. The first few days hurt a bit (use the wax and take advil) but it gets better. Last week I thought I'd never eat again, especially in front of people, and today I totally pigged out at the office Halloween party with no problems! It just takes a bit to get used to the...

Welcome! I just joined this message board and I think it's awesome! Everyone has been very cool. I tend to agree with your BF. If you're going to go through the expense of getting things fixed, you should fix them right. I also think you should go with the second option and with that ortho because y...

I am going to go 4 times per year because my insurance covers it and I want to make sure my teeth stay clean. I think that every 6 months would be sufficient. I use a waterpik and still floss daily. I only use one superfloss per day. It's probably overkill but I'd rather be safe than sorry. Glad to ...

Thanks!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I am adjusting quite nicely. My teeth are feeling much better and I am adjusting to the cleaning routine. I look at it as my private time to think (well except when I am spewing expletives while trying to floss my back molars). I talked to my oral hygienist toda...

SureSmile
I just had my braces put on last week. I will wear normal archwires for a bit before moving into the SureSmile archwires. I received estimated time quotes from several orthodontists in multiple cities before deciding to go with my current treatment plan. Other orthodontists said I would have to wear...

Newly braced at 38
I am newly braced and new to the forum. I just posted in the metal mouth forum and then I found this one. I just got Speed System braces last Tuesday, October 21, 2008. I have to wear those for 4-6 months to pull this mess into place and then I will get my Suresmile archwires. Thank god for technolo...

I have to wear those for 4-6 months to pull this mess into place and then I will get my Suresmile archwires. I have been putting off getting them since high school. My dentist finally convinced me ...
