Yes it get's worse but if you avoid mirrors, it's not too bad. You gotta go through it in order to get to your goal.

Re: Should i get the operation???
I know how you feel. It is cosmetic but it is makes a huge impact on your self-confidence and therefor possibly your success later in life. I wish I had gotten the operation in my teens as was suggested, rather than waiting until I was in my 40's. I would have healed better, and would have had all t...

Re: Took my braces off but my teeth dont touch
I'm in the same boat as you- braces off 8 months ago and molars haven't "settled". I really can't see how they can move since they are held in place by the retainer. 4 months ago my ortho said I may have to get braces on molars only to make them touch- why this wasn't done before?-I'll nev...

Re: Cold Sores before Surgery
I got cold sores a week before my surgery. I got a prescription because I thought that after my surgery I'd definitely have a break out due to the agitation of the lip area. Lo and behold, I do believe that the surgery actually cured my herpes!

Re: Details: how old were you? ( and skin implications)
I was 42 years old at surgery.
No impact on facial skin.
I did develop a bit of a turkey neck skin under my chin from having my jaw moved back plus losing 10 pounds.

After a few weeks I had pins and needles, tingling then itchiness and took that as a good sign, but... 3 months- Had acupuncture with no improvement. 6 months- Had crainio-sacral therapy with slight improvement - could feel firm pres...

Re: Is this normal or have I really screwed up my face?
I'm 1+ years post-surgery and looking back at my pictures, I was still swollen at 3 months, even though I thought that I wasn't and that this was my new face. Give it time, your features are stunning and look beautiful together but you have the same swollen look that I had and that really does inter...

Re: so angry
My jaw is finally starting to stay in place and I'm at 11.5 months post-op. In December by jaw was still kind of loose. Give it time- lots of time, it will get better.

Re: Someone Explain!?? Numbness in Lower Lip/ Chin?
Don't they peel away the skin to expose the jaw in order to operate? (except for the mandibular nerve) I thought this is why we needed stitches.

It could be the temperature of the water. The nerves are more sensitive to anything other than body temperature.

I have numbness of my chin, lower lip and my lower gums - 9 months post op- double jaw surgery. I live in Ontario Canada. I have found very slow improvement with cranio-sacral therapy. I'm happy with slow improvement rather than no improvement at all! It's also called osteopathy. This is the type of...
