I go to my hygienist every 4 months since having braces on. She works around the brackets and wires easily. The only thing different is I refuse to let her floss at the end - she uses a threader and it takes way too long. I floss every night anyway so it's a waste of (a lot) of time.

I had a cavity last summer, about one year into my braces. I also couldn't believe it - I brush my teeth five times a day and floss every night so what else am I supposed to do! It was also on my back molar which didn't have a bracket at that time so it was a pretty standard fill and the brac...

I had two coil springs on either side of my lower front. They were torture, because they caused terrible pain in my teeth and they tore up my inner lip. I had them on for about 6 months and they made a huge amount of space, enough to rotate around both my lower canines, which were completely turned ...

I wouldn't be concerned, your ortho will figure out a way to close the gaps. I have gaps on my bottom that we have been trying to close for a couple of months now. We started with a clear powerchain, then moved to a silver powerchain, which is supposed to be stronger than clear. Then we tried a clos...

My insurance specifically precludes coverage for jaw surgery so there was absolutely no way I could afford it. The cost would have been at least $50,000. But now seeing the results that have been achieved (my teeth are straight and beautiful), I'm glad that surgery wasn't an option for me. I really ...

I enthusiastically second what Tumble and Snow said above! I couldn't be happier with my "compromise" treatment.

It sounds like you really don't want to, but I recommend you get a second, third, even fourth opionion. I went to five consults prior to deciding on my ortho. I only got an impression once, after I had "signed up" with the ortho I chose - at the consults, the orthos just looked at my teeth...

I too was told I should have surgery to correct my overjet but I opted against it for a couple of reasons. When I started treatment, I had an 8mm overjet and my orthodontist didn't make any promises that it would be corrected. I just wanted the crowding corrected so I would have nice straight teeth....

Sounds like the OP has an axe to grind with doctors and/or dentists? Kilikena put her view on the subject very eloquently and I completely agree. Like Tumble, I also ended up choosing the most expensive orthodontist out of the multiple consults I went to. I am so glad I did. I really feel like I'm g...

Recently I've gotten totally fed up with the staining on my pearl ligs - even though they were a huge improvement over the clear - so I have on silver and they are very discreet. I like the look of them and they match the silver powerchain I have to wear on the bottom (no choice on the color there b...

My ortho office has two male assistants and they are both great. The office is owned by two female orthodontists so maybe they prefer to have men to boss around.
