Re: Extraction positives, celebrities with extractions!

It is crazy that orthodontists and dentists--who know all this stuff about premolars (they tell me NOW that my teeth are worn down)---don't ever tell patients anything about the necessity to have premolars, when they pull them out. Afterwards, charging thousands of dollars to crown and cap the teet...

Re: Extraction positives, celebrities with extractions!

Well Miranda Kerr is nearing her 40s, and Catherina Zeta Jones is almost 50 and they both still look great. Perhaps some people age badly but not everyone would. I don't think it's right for you to use scare tactics like that. I've seen many people who didn't have premolars extracted age very badly ...

Re: How do I know if my potential orthodontist is good / bad?

Hi Ruby77, I was in a similar situation to you. I still felt like a few of my teeth weren't straight after braces. My orthodontist wasn't willing to admit her work wasn't perfect, and even other staff at the same practice were disagreeing with her. I visited a number of different dental practices in...

Re: Am I a candidate for lower jaw surgery?

I had extractions about 6 years ago. I know it took almost 2 years after the extractions until my braces were off, so it can be quite a while! I'm happy overall as it's a huge improvement from what I started with, but unfortunately my orthodontist left a couple of teeth very slightly out of alignmen...

Re: Am I a candidate for lower jaw surgery?

Hi there, I faced a very similar situation to you. Two orthodontists recommended upper premolar extractions and one said jaw surgery. The stark differences in the consultations put me off straightening my teeth for years. If you ask people they tend to say "You should avoid extractions if you c...

Re: Conflicting orthodontist opinions?

Thanks to everyone for your replies. So I went back to the practice enquiring about bonding and funnily enough the cosmetic dentist noticed the central incisor being out of alignment immediately. I didn't even have to mention it! He actually asked if I'd been wearing my retainer, even though I have ...

Re: Conflicting orthodontist opinions?

Thanks Jethro! Sorry to hear your teeth have relapsed :( They're looking great at the moment. Overall I'm pretty happy with my smile and the bite is good, I know it's a huge improvement compared to what I started with, but I just want them to be as perfect as physically possible. If I know for sure ...

Re: Conflicting orthodontist opinions?

I'll mention it but I really don't think she'll speak with the other orthodontist, her views were pretty strong. :? I just thought having a 3D digital image of my teeth/roots and what could possibly be achieved would help in a case like this. It wouldn't be great if I ended up paying for further tre...

Re: Conflicting orthodontist opinions?

Thanks for your replies. Sorry to hear that Beks! That sounds very frustrating :( I hope you manage to get it sorted! They did acknowledge the teeth were slightly different shapes, but also agreed that there are some minor adjustments that could still be done. djspeece, I believe she was referring t...

Conflicting orthodontist opinions?

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has faced a similar situation? I had braces taken off a while back but wasn't 100% happy with the positions of two of my teeth (central incisor and lateral incisor). I was told this was due to their shapes and that the teeth are as straight as can be. Recently I've been c...

Re: Extraction of bicuspids and benefits on the profile

most of the patients with premolars extraction are not happy with the outcome.. there are thread here for extraction reversal.. Incorrect. The ones looking to reverse extractions are rare. Most people who have extractions simply get on with their lives, unhappy people are more likely to write about...

Re: Is it possible to expand/widen your arch WHILE having braces + extractions?

Yes you can have expanders on with braces. Do you have a narrow arch? Expanding your upper arch may mean your bite might not align with your lower teeth. Not all extraction cases are the same, it doesn't automatically mean you'll have a narrow smile. You can see that in a thread I made: https://www....

Re: Extraction positives, celebrities with extractions!

Thanks for the pic assertives. I also explained how you can tell on the first page of this thread. :) The premolars are usually a similar shape. If you can only see one premolar after the canine and what looks like a larger molar right behind it then that person has a missing premolar. When you know...
