Re: Did you have a turbinectomy?

Ask an ENT physician. My ENT and my OS disagreed with each other regarding that surgery.

Re: Has anyone here appealed the allowable amount with Anthe

I appealed to Anthem. The only grounds that they reconsidered for my claim was that there were no contracted or in network surgeons to do the surgery. They decided my surgery was necessary but the contracted payment amount was less than $1,000.00. That's probably why there are no contracted surgeons.

Re: bone graft from hip during surgery?

I recently had bone taken from my hip and put into my maxilla. It wasn't any worse than a previous surgery I had. My hip is fine and so is my mouth.

Most OS will for a cash payer if they feel it will accomplish what you are looking to accomplish. Dr. Wolford in Dallas is the only Texas OS I know of.

Sorry you have such bad news. I'm w/ Mike if you have difficulty breathing, sleep apnea or being at risk for respiratory failure treatment is probably a covered benefit. Ask you medical doctor not your OS about that. I would ask OSU oral surgery dept if they have any programs for pt who do not have ...

I am so glad to read your success. I am older than you and I too have an at risk airway, and cannot wait for surgery - only 3 more weeks. I am sure it will be months recovering but I am looking forward to having more energy and feeling better. I am so happy for you and hope my results will be as goo...

Eating totally normal

I'm with OzzysMom, it took me 9 months anyway, maybe 12 before I could eat steak and salads and a few other things without a problem. It was very frustrating but it gradually got better. I would try something and if it did not go well I waited a few weeks and tried again. You'll get there. I know we...

Have you asked for an out of network exception someone else has mentioned. I would check your plan about the exception. Another thing that might be helpful is asking an in network oral surgeon to write a letter referring you to Dr. Wolford, stating that he/she is unable to perform the needed surgery...

ladyjenie - are you talking about having the joint replaced. Dr. Wolford does a lot of those. If you are - you can call TMJ concepts - the company who makes the joints - they will give you names of surgeons in Dallas who put in the joints. TMJ concepts has a website you can get the 800 number there.

Drs Wolford & Gunson/Arnett

It has been my experience that there are as many opinions as doctors. It's difficult to get a majority opinion, especially when you have a condyle problem. I have condylar resorption and have gotten opinions from leforte and BSSO, sliding genioplasty and joint replacements of the TMJ. Researching th...

second time around

Best of luck with the second surgery. I have to have a second surgery also though mine are years apart. I just keep telling myself that this will improve both my physical health and mental outlook. If you have read this board for a while there are people who have had more than one surgery and are do...

Isn't it nice to know you are not the oldest? I had surgery more than 20 years ago, and was very glad I did. I had a full time job and a family and was in school at the time. I even had my mouth wired shut for 8 weeks to my husband and daughters delight. Fortunately they usually use rubber bands and...
