Re: How long did everyone have braces before surgery

LOL I thought I was award winning with my 8 years worth of treatment until I read Mart's reply above. I was initially told 18 months before surgery, then I was told 3 years. I ended up in braces for 6 years and 4 months prior to BSSO. Then was still in braces for another 5 months after surgery. I'm ...

My 8 Year Plus Journey

Hi folks,

It's been a long long time, I think maybe I might hold a record for the longest treatment time.
But I am almost very nearly finished.
Have a look at my blog/story which takes you through braces, BSSO and dental implant.

Re: How long was it (after BSSO) before your sensation retur

I had BSSO (mandibular setback) and wisdom tooth removal (on right hand side) on 5th September 2014. Initially I was pretty much numb my whole chin and lower lip but could feel a cup along the length of my lower lip so I was ok for drinking. I had a very numb bit almost in the centre of my chin. I h...

Re: Jaw surgery in Scotland?

Hi lalcharlie, Welcome :D I am in Aberdeen, Scotland. I'm 37 and have 2 children (15yrs and 12yrs) I got my braces on nearly 7 years ago (I am assured by many that this is not the average length of time in braces LOL) and had lower BSSO on 5th September. You will cope and it will be easier than you ...

Re: I Fear Something is Wrong :( (almost 12 weeks post BBSO

Good news! It was bone sticking out of my gum. But luckily my surgeon was at my ortho appointment to see me anyway. It was a bone fragment from the incision site that had decided it wasn't going to be part of my new face and was making it's way out. A few twiddles with the tweezers and he got it out...

Re: Surgery date set, a few general questions.

Hello :) Firstly, if your anxiety doesn't get any better, please consider going to see your doctor to see if there is anything they can give you to help. Also try relaxation, yoga or meditation. It won't be as bad as you think it will be. I was in an anxious state the week before my surgery to the p...

I Fear Something is Wrong :( (almost 12 weeks post BBSO)

Can anyone/someone have a look at my latest blog update please? http://faysbracesjourney.blogspot.co.uk/ I am 12 weeks post BBSO with mandibular setback. Last week I saw a red lump developing between my gum and my cheek at the incision site on the left. This weekend, now I see what looks like bone s...

Re: Some quick questions for those who have had jaw surgery!

Hello :) Well, I'm going to sound *REALLY* frustrating to you because I know what it is like to be 1 week post-op but really, your mouth and your bite and where your teeth want to go will change lots over the next few weeks so take it slow, you are still at week 1. I posted on here 9 days post-op fr...

Re: Got my surgery date, roll on the 19th Nov, excited & ner

Hi Harmony, Glad to hear you got through to the other side :) Elastics are really important because they hold your jaw in it's new place and it's amazing how much things can move about in there. 12 weeks out and my midlines have been unmatched, came together and now in the other direction and it has...

Re: What's the appointment process like before Jaw surgery?

I'm in the UK so maybe a little bit different. I had 2 pre-op appointments with both my ortho and max fax surgeon. The first appointment was for max fax to have a look at me and agree that I was ready for surgery and to book a date. The second appointment took around an hour as the surgeon explained...

Re: Jaw surgery people: what do you need to buy online?

My hospital only gave me pain meds and mouthwash (2 big bottles of the stuff and I still have a bottle left). I found that I didn't really need 'things' other than tissues and ice packs for the first 3 days. Tissues are easily bought from the chemist or supermarket so I wouldn't want to purchase tho...

Re: Retainers After Surgery

Thanks sirwired for your thoughts. I'll be honest and say I'm not fussed what retainers I get when it comes to how they look, been in braces far too long now for that. I wonder now after reading your experiences if I'll get Hawkleys or bonded retainers, especially since in the 3 weeks post surgery w...

Retainers After Surgery

I know I'm jumping the gun here but my daughter got her braces off last week and got her retainers today. She has Essix retainers and I'm amazed...you can't tell she is wearing them!! I've never seen or had Essix retainers before. I've had Hawley retainers myself but now she has hers, I'm wondering ...
