Hi Athy , it sounds as though we might be debraced around the same time. I'm really bored with my braces now and trying not to get my hopes up, as I know it is hard for the ortho to predict exactly when. But he assured me last time that August was very, very doable. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, ...

Hi donnala - welcome! I'm in my fifties too, and I have now been braced for 15 months. I remember the early days - it takes quite a bit of getting used to. You will have good times and not so good times, but you will always find support on here. Eating is hardly an issue after a while, but I still g...

Hi there, I have metal ties too. There is always a piece that is folded back and out of the way. It could be that you moved it with your brush. I have done that before now. I usually push it back with the eraser end of a pencil. Mine are pretty well twisted up when they are put on, so I would be ver...

TEMPORARY REMOVAL OF BRACES

I'm interested to hear from anyone who has had, or is planning to have their braces removed temporarily. I have arranged with my ortho to have mine taken off for 6 weeks in July while I go on a trip. I am wondering if anyone else has done this. How long was it for? Did your teeth move a lot while th...

Hello DebbieI Welcome! And good luck with the journey. The early days are the hardest. At least they were for me. There's lots to learn, and a lot of "firsts", like eating in public places, meeting friends. You will find lots of support and encouragement here as well as lots of information...

Hello everyone, It's nice to be back. I only just noticed that the board had opened up again. I hope you all had a good holiday season and Happy New Year to everyone - a little belated, I know. HHB Hello, how are you doing? You sounded very positive in your last post. I hope things are still going w...

I had a premolar move a long way out from where it should be, and it happened in a couple of days. I waited about two weeks for my next adjustment. My ortho said that if a tooth can move out that fast, then it can also move back that fast. I was very relieved to hear that, and it was absolutely corr...

Hello again LongIntheT, Yes, I'm still on a three week cycle. I must have had 9 or 10 adjustments now. I rather like it as it makes me feel that we are speeding things along, although I don't know if that's true. This last time, I had a tooth that was moving way out of where it should, but since I o...

Great pictures, Kerensa. They show your situation very clearly. It sounds as though you are well on your way and have an orhto who lets you know the plan. I look forward to seeing the next pics of that gap closing up. Keep posting.

Yes, your bite will be all over the place and what you describe sounds very normal. I've been in braces for 8 months now. My bite is different from one week to the next, and it is never good. Right now, my front teeth are knocking together and my back teeth don't touch anywhere so I'm back on baby f...

Hello Mel, And welcome. You have quite a dental history there. It sounds as though you are being very pragmatic and responsible about your treatment. Good for you on getting several consultations to compare. It's a big decision and a big step to take, but you sound as though you are getting ready fo...

Hi bracednconfused, I'm very interested in your experience of having your braces taken off temporarily. Can you tell me more about that. Was it expensive? Was your ortho happy to do it or did he advise against it? If I'm not out of braces by my projected date of June 09, I will seriously consider th...

Hello uncertain from Finland, I can totally relate to your experience. I was an emotional mess for the week before and about three weeks after getting braces. It's a huge and difficult decision and takes a lot of adjusting. This may sound a bit strange to some, but I think moving your teeth around c...
