I guess I should count myself lucky...

I had my braces on for approximately 24 months - the top brace came off about 10 days ago, and the lower one came off this week. I got a permanent wire behind my lower teeth, which is really no problem at all. It's much thinner and less obtrusive than I imagined it would be. Even after just a couple...

Hmm, well, I might as well reply to my own post

I got an Essix retainer, and the top of the retainer doesn't go as high as the gums, so it wasn't a problem in the end.

Will a canker sore cause problems for my retainer?

I got my upper brace off last week (yay!) and have been enjoying my new-found liberty. Tomorrow the lower brace comes off and I'll be getting a permanent retainer on the lower teeth and removable one for the uppers (I'm not sure which type though, but the molds were taken for both last week). Now I'...

Yeah, this happened to me once. I was being a bit naughty and eating some crusty bread (against the rules) and the bread caused the wire to pop out and buckle a little. I was able to kind of poke it back into place, although the wire was buckled. Anyway I called and they said it was no major problem...

You've been wearing these elastics for quite some time now - I should hope that things are sufficiently stable (as close as you are to debanding) that it should not matter if you stop wearing the elastics 4 days early. In any case, it seems you have little choice, since your ortho is not available....

Just a few days to go... but I have a small problem

My appointment for de-bracing (for the top half, with the bottom half to follow a week later) is this coming Tuesday, i.e. just a few days away. Very excited, obviously! BUT I have a small problem now: I've been on elastics for a year or so, and for the last couple of months they've been very tight ...

I think I might have lost a tie, but I'm not sure

I'm 18 months or so into treatment and nearly finished with the braces. Yesterday the orthodontist's assistant did several things: replaced the two central upper brackets (ceramics); removed the upper and lower wires to clip them shorter and then put them back in, anchoring them no longer on the mol...

Nearly finished - a couple of questions

I went for my latest appointment yesterday (after about 18 months of treatment) and was told that I'm nearly done. They replaced the centre two brackets on my upper teeth - I'm not quite sure why (they didn't seem loose to me), but it was no big deal. From what I'd read, getting ceramic brackets rem...
