Power Chains (also called simply Chains or Orthodontic Chains) are a length of elasticized chain used in place of ligatures on orthodontic brackets. They are essentially a series of connected elastic ligatures, and are made from the same material as ligatures. Sometimes they are made from twisted metal wires instead of elastic material. Orthodontists use Power Chains to close spaces between the teeth, or keep spaces from opening. Power Chains are most often used to close spaces after teeth have been extracted.
