Every few weeks, your Orthodontist will want to see you to evaluate your progress. This process is called an Adjustment. In the old days, they called it “tightening,” but that term is incorrect because in truth nothing is actually tightened! During your Adjustment appointment, your arch wires and ligatures might be changed, and new appliances might be changed or added. All of this keeps your treatment on track and moving forward.
After an Adjustment, your teeth may feel sore for a day or two. This is normal. Your arch wire may also get displaced, resulting in a poking wire. It’s all part of the process as your treatment progresses to give you a new smile.
