The MARA (Mandibular Anterior Repositioning Appliance) holds the lower jaw forward to help correct a Class II Malocclusion. It consists of stainless steel parts that are attached to the upper and lower molars. When you wear a MARA Appliance, you are forced to bring your lower jaw forward in order to bring your front teeth together. The MARA Appliance is generally placed in children whose jaws are still growing. It may be used in conjunction with a Palate Expander to widen the upper arch as the lower jaw grows and is pushed into a more favorable forward position.
