A Gum Graft (Gingival Graft) is a procedure where gingival tissue is surgically attached to the area of an exposed tooth root. The procedure is usually done in-office by a Periodontist. The graft tissue is either taken from the roof of your mouth, or from a tissue bank. A Gum Graft restores a tooth’s firm placement within the jaw and prevents further periodontal damage. If you have more than one area of gum recession in your mouth, it is possible to get several grafts done at the same time. It takes about 10 days to fully recover from a Gum Graft, with complete healing in two to three weeks.
