A Deep Bite is an abnormally large overlap of your top teeth onto your bottom teeth. In the above illustration, notice that the front top teeth cover the bottom front teeth when the mouth is closed. A Deep Bite can cause a myriad of problems, such as: ongoing jaw pain, headaches, teeth grinding, tooth sensitivity, problems with chewing and swallowing, unclear speech, and TMJD. In addition, it might cause sores on your gums, and may contribute to sleep apnea.
Correcting a Deep Bite often requires a variety of treatments, such as a Bite Plate or Bite Turbos, a Herbst Appliance, and in some cases jaw surgery.
