A Bite Plate (also called a Bite Plane) is a removable appliance used to correct a deep bite. It looks similar to a Hawley Retainer, with an acrylic body and metal clasps that clip onto the inside of the top molars. You usually need to wear a Bite Plate full time for several months or more, depending on how much bite correction is needed. Remove it once or twice a day to clean it and prevent buildup of plaque and bacteria.
When you first wear a Bite Plate, it may be difficult to speak or eat properly. However, these problems usually decrease after the first week or two while you adapt to the appliance being in your mouth.
