Susy's orthodontic story: [11/07/2009] to [?]

#1 Post by Susy »

Hi guys :D

I'm 23, just braced 11 days, 12 hours ago.

But in the beginning, the quick guide how my mouth started:
 • Class II malocclusion
 • Overbite of 2-3 mm
 • Minimal cross bite on the left side (well, big enough that I always ate to the left)
 • crowding on the bottom from vertically directed jaw
 • high canines (especially on the left side) and rotated bicuspid on top

I was informed by my dentist that my overbite was only solvable by surgery, but as I don't have functional problem from it and I don't really wanna change my profile, I won't do it. My sentence was 24-30 months since my bottom is a mess, and I have a hard jaw to work in, so, I'm ok with that timing. During that time will use braces, TPA, and some sort of bar on bottom that I can't remember the name. As they will be all in metal, and I'll be wearing them simultaneous, I'll use the "mouth full of metal" term very often!

On the "why am I doing it?" question, the true is that I really hate my vamp asymmetrical canines (if they were a little high and level I believe I would be ok with that). On left vain terms, my bottom's teeth are to together to be clean, teeth really need to go, there's not a millimeter of extra space.

So far I've only put the top braces, next will be spacers, and than the TPA (I hope I can talk normally, because I work and spitting on my bosses can't be good!). I don't know if my teeth are moving or not, I'm trying not to think about it, but I do fell like my teeth are falling from my mouth (not the best feeling).

I'll try to post some photos latter.

Pictures from day 3 and 12

#2 Post by Susy »

For some reason I only took pictures at day 3, but I've decided to take another picture today (day 12, not 10, ups ). I don't really see any change when I look at the mirror, but in pictures I do remember that my left canine was higher that the incisor, and know is almost lower. The right incisor (that I've called bicuspid in the last post ) seems to be trying to go places (I'm not sure the right ones, I use to play with it when I'm nervous, and it's going back, if that makes sense).

ops, double post...

well, 2 days ago I went to put 4 spacers on top..and...OUCH! the dentist said it would only hurt when I ate...well, I must have chewed my pillow all night long! I can't really eat yet (only swallow).

Next Wednesday I'll take the spacers off, and put the TPA.

If anyone has a TPA on, does it take to long to...assemble? And does your speech gets very affected?

I'm going to do it on my lunch hour, so, I was hoping not to be incomprehensible afterwords.

My speech has no problem, but I'm slightly afraid I'll shock on my own spit - who would say that not drolling or spiting other might have a bad side?

I'm not In significant pain from the adjustment. Still in the "12" wire. the next adjustment is in 4 weeks, lets see what happens until then.

Wow, those tops are coming along VERY nicely! Way to go!

Isn't it amazing what they can do to transform teeth? I had a problem similar to yours with the canines, except BOTH of mine were high. By the time four months rolled around, they were both pretty much in line with the rest of my teeth. It was amazing to me! I have pictures in the Metal Mouth Forum if you want to check them out. :)

Hi againbrace!
againbrace wrote: Can I ask what was reason you needed the TPA? When I get mine it will be to anchor the next to last molars and the last molars will be banded and pulled forward. Doesn't sound like much fun. I like to eat salads and pasta and I read that those can be a problem with a TPA unless they are cut into tiny pieces. I like to twirl my spaghetti on a fork and have at it that way, but it seems that will have to change. UGH! LOL!
My TPA it's just to anchor the molars so they don't move in angle or position, so it's pretty much painless when I got used to it, since my molars aren't moving.

About the pasta and salad, I don't have any problem with that,I don't like rice or potato, so I pretty much only eat salads and pasta and I don't cut them at all. The only thing more weird to eat are some soups that get curled up on the tpa, and solids cut into little pieces sometimes get stucked, but that's rarer. the only things I can't do is eating with my mouth fully closed

about the new hardware, I'll have a bar on the bottom too - it seems that I need all that I can get :D

Bottom 06-02-2010

#11 Post by Susy »

Bottom is on after 7 months ...and a bracket is already off. It took about 3 hours :(

initial top
Image

Top - going well according to the orth
Image

Bottom front - yes, all my canines went nuts
Image

Bottom left - I've a space behind the second pre-molar
Image

Bottom right - the first pre-molar will be out someday
Image

The worse part is really the loose bracket that is poking me like hell.

next step: lingual bar (behind my lower teeth)
