Sam's Brace face + Pics{progress pics p2}

#1 Post by samantha86 »

Hey, i have already got a braces story posted on here but it was a bit naff, so i'm going to start all over again :)

I'm Sam, 21 years of age, and have finally had then guts to go through with braces.
For years i have wanted to have straight teeth and considered my options, such as veneers, invisalign or braces.

I finally plucked up the courage to book my self an appointment with the dentist to discuss what they thought my options may be. The dentist recommended that i should never go through with veneers and that invisalign may not work very well on my teeth as they are fairly crooked.

After speaking with her i booked my self another appointment with an orthodontist, and came to the decision that i will have ceramic braces fitted on the top of the jaw and metal braces on the bottom.
I Had a choice whether to have teeth out or not and, i decided not to as my teeth are perfectly fine and didn't think there would be much point in removing 4 when i have the option to keep them.Unfortunately keeping my teeth means that i will have to have mini-screws, screwed into my jaw bone after a year of having braces to bring my jaw back slightly.

It sounds worse than what it is thank god. but anyhow, here are some pictures of what my teeth look like at the moment:

The things that come instantly to mind:

Applesauce, yogurt, ice cream, scrambled eggs (they make a mess in the brackets/wires but don't hurt), I made up a big batch of potato salad and it went down pretty easily, tofu, bananas, pudding, mashed potatoes.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

Soups and soft breads, soft pasta too. Within a week I could eat what I liked.

thanks for the tips ! , i think i will definatly try the slim fast stuff, trouble is im tiny for my age and my mum is worrying that im not eating properly.
my bf is loving it on the other hand, its saving his wallet as my favourite thing to do is go out for dinner. i look forward to when i can chew a bit better and get my teeth into chinese takeaway.lol even a double cheeseburger from maccy d's would be soooo nice right now and it hasnt even been a week yet!
ive read about curry's and that staining the little bands on the bracket,(one of my fav foods :() anyone have any other problems with yucky yellow band trouble?

nearly 2 weeks on

#6 Post by samantha86 »

Hey , nearly 2 weeks on since i got braced. feeling so much better now, thank god , i thought the pain wouldnt stop.
im finally able to chew most things now (with caution) still worried i might break something if a crunch a crisp too hard.
i also barely notice there in my mouth now, and i actually look at them and quite like them hehe. unfortunaly the ligs on my brackets are getting a lil discoloured which isnt too pretty , but i am going to ask the ortho if i can get them changed over next week hopefully.
i think my teeth are slowly moving :)
i wanted to ask , are the wires holding the bracket quite delicate? im not sure how hard i can chew ??
anyway, here are some pics of how they look at the moment:

Had my ligs changed today. The clear bands i had were looking a bit yellow so i asked my ortho if i could have them changed to a colour to withstand staining a lil more.
baby pink !! hehe , there not as bright as i hoped though:( think il pick something brighter next time. :)

They are looking great Sam! I like the baby pink ligs, I am hoping to be able to add some color soon, but right now I have wire ties on, and they couldn't do it. Your teeth will start to look awesome, and you will end up so happy! good luck! 8)

Hey, thanks :),
yea i think the pink looks good, still worry they may stain a bit though.
i like the sound of the wire ties because you dont have to worry about the staining, do they look any good??

Wire ties

#12 Post by Katarina527 »

Sam, actually the wire ties are on the bottom teeth which they actually twist wires around each individual bracket I was told by the doctor to start rotation of the teeth. They blend right in with the metal brackets. On the top I don't have ligs, the ceramics are self litigating, but I may put colors on just for the heck of it! I saw a girl with rainbow colors, and they were so cute! :D

ohhh right! cool. i wanted the self ligating braces by 3M but the ortho advised me not to as he said they are so strong that they sometimes ping off the teeth more often than normal brackets if there is quite a bit of tension on the wire.
I have heard a lot of good points about them though, atleast you wont have to deal with any staining.
Thats good that you still have the option of having the coloured ligs though :)

I have had good luck so far, no staining, no popping off. Maybe I will get lucky and get the tops off sooner!! I like them though, people hardly even notice I have them! How long do you have to wear yours?

i have to hve mine on for around 2 years :( he couldnt give me any definate time as im not having any extractions which would have made the length of time much shorter but i opted for the mini screws which apparently will take about a year to get everything to where it should be.
seems such a long time :(
how long are you having yours for?
