Braces again

#1 Post by smile2006 »

Well the drama continues. I had my braces removed in July, a year after upper, lower and genio. My upper left lateral decided it wanted to shift back into the gum (this happened almost immediately after getting my braces off). I got braces on my upper teeth again (only brackets, nothing on the molars) and three brackets on the lower (with a tiny short wire on the lower). I have a box elastic on the left side. The get up looks a little goofy but in one day the tooth is back down and the left side in general is much more snug. I'm liking the look of that tooth down again but can't beleive I've got braces again. I'm seeing my orthodondist weekly during this process to make sure the tooth doesn't come too far down (could take as short as a week or as long as a couple months). My ortho did give me the option of braces on only half the upper arch but that seemed really weird to me and it would also look really weird (I'm a professor up in front of students all day). I guess when things are in place I'll get a bonded retainer to hold it there. Not sure if I'll go back to an upper hawley or not. I thought I was in the home stretch now all this for a single tooth............oh well, it's worth it! I must say I was not a happy camper yesterday but I do commend my orthodontists committment to getting it right.

One could say, oh no. But we saw it coming. Or some buttons to pull it down,
or having what you have now. Better I think, so you won't have the risk of having
other teeth messed up. I am sure it will only take a short time. I do not know
if you could have it extruded a bit too much, so that after some relapse it is then
just perfect. But that may not be simple, I know. A bonded retainer will indeed be
better I think. So, now you are also a "third timer" .

Thanks Clo-

Yes, not the greatest news but they already look and feel so much better already. My ortho was origionally going to do the buttons only but wanted more stability to keep the other teeth in their correct position. He did say it could be as short as a week to get things in line so maybe it will be quick. I was cursing my ortho (silently of course) but I'm glad we're doing this. He assured me it was tooth placement issue and that my jaw stability is perfect.....that was my fear!!!!!!
