How long until teeth start moving?

#1 Post by kay »

Hi all,

I have been braced for almost 3 weeks now and disappointed that i havn't seen any movement yet. How long does it take for teeth to start straightening out? I know i have to give it time, but even a little movement would make me feel like all this is worth it!!

My teeth were straight after two months.
Since I'm also correcting crossbite and overbite it takes many months more..

I noticed that I looked for movement very often at the beginning, but later as I got used to wearing braces I just didn't care anymore..

I feel the same way :D I want to see more movement, I want a stronger archwire!

I think my teeth might have moved about half a millimeter

Hi Kay,

I remember posting this question 6mths ago. As Meryaten says 'take photos'. I couldn't see any movement but when I compared photos after about 4 weeks of the braces being on, there was a very definite shape in my arch. My higgeldy piggeldy teeth were all even and arched. It's a good tip.

Good Luck with lots of movement soon!

I'm the same as you Kay. I've been braced for a week and I keep staring at my teeth, willing them to move. And really, nothing yet. I don't feel any of the "tell-tale signs" of movement either, which is a shame. I know they will eventually move, but I was hoping they would be sprinters rather than marathon runners.....

Yeai feel your pain. Ive seen movement but not in the area which i wanted to see it. Its frustrating but im holding onto hope that it will happen quickly when the area starts straightening out.

Hi Kay

I'm at the 2 week mark and keep looking for movement. I try to tell myself to be patient but it's hard to be. I do, as others said, notice teeth hitting in different places and have noticed my right canine (near the extraction gap) has moved. I keep looking to see if the spring I have to make room for a hidden incisor is opening up the space but to my disappointment it looks the same. I'm sure things must be happening but it is probably too subtle to see.

As I said, it is hard but we'll probably have to be a bit more patient.

Regards
Joney

I've seen movement, and now i have two teeth that i know for sure are moving and yet again those two teeth are sore. My uppers are not overlapped now although i have a small space in between them now. The lowers are slowly making progress.

I've had by braces in now for 12 days (yippeeee!) and the only way I could tell they're moving is by flossing. I couldn't get my floss between these two crowded teeth but now I can. Even after my extraction it was still tight but this evening I was able to floss with ease.

How fun is that! I'm anticipating straight teeth by Christmas.

Just kidding.
