Ok so here goes, i've wanted braces forever as i have no confidence at all at the moment. Basically I need braces on my uppers and lowers but my ortho wants to see how i get on with my uppers first (he gave me the choice what to go with first, and because its the top that's primarily wonky i decided to go with that).

Also i must say i've been really lucky to get all my treatment free of charge on the NHS at the age of 23, however i do think my ortho is going to write an article or study about my case, which i don't mind really as it means he's probably going to want to get it perfect!

I would post pictures, but not really sure how to do it? if someone could explain that would be great ;)

Anyway finally, today is day 3, and the pain is slowly easing off....i've been in agony since thursday. Everyone has been really cool about it and it really hasnt altered my speech at all....so hardly anyone has noticed until i've mentioned it. Either way i'm just glad to get my treatment started :)

Hey Stacey,

Congratulations on getting started. Hope you have quick progress in getting that blocked out lateral incisor into line. That is the only visible issue with your teeth and otherwise they look great already.

Thanks all :) will do! :)

Right, bit more info ....

Actually my bottom teeth the midline is way off, due to a stubborn baby tooth that hasn't got an adult tooth underneath.

Also on my top set one of my molars (i think?!) needs to come out too, to make room for that wonky tooth to come into line. My ortho is writing to my dentist about these so I can get them removed asap. Luckily they aren't too far forward so my gaps shouldnt be too obvious :)

Finally my ortho has decided to get my upper right wisdom tooth removed, even though it hasn't erupted yet :( not really looking forward to that, only just had my bottom left removed because it was impacted :( they had to give me a general anaesthetic as it was quite traumatic and close to the nerve. Anybody had any wisdom teeth removed whilst wearing braces? Does it make it super difficult for the surgeon as there is less room?

Hi Stacey. Great to hear your story and see your picture.

Hope pain is subsiding and eating is becoming easier? I'm 18 days in and don't really have pain anymore *touch wood* odd bit of rubbing but no pain.

Have my first adjustment next friday, which I hope I have no pain afterwards.

Hope you have a smooth journey and look forward to progress pics.

...braces are annoying.

I'm over the honeymoon stage now.

So Friday I had a big social event with a well known electronics manufacturer (the forum wont let me post the name :P), they ordered us pizza and then i found myself running backwards and forwards to the toilet trying to get my braces clean again. Impossible to do discreetly lol....meh

I know i'm doing the right thing...i just wish my mouth would get use to them and forget that they're actually there!

Stacey

I hope things are going better for you. It really does get easier. Both of my lateral incisors on the top need to be moved forward so I can relate to the wonky tooth. I've had braces on for 5 months now, and I think I've finally adjusted. Give it some time; you will too.

I had an adjustment today and there is FINALLY enough room between my incisor and canine on the right side that they were able to connect an elastic band to the bracket on that lateral incisor to start moving it forward. I am so excited. They think that they other side will be ready by the fall. I certainly hope so!

The reason I was commenting is because of your braces are so annoying comment. I laughed! I went to a music festival... outdoor camping for 3 days... and it was HORRIBLE!!! UGH. During that weekend, I would have given anything not to have these things on my teeth. Trying to get your teeth brushed while camping with a bunch of hippies listening to music is no fun at all. I can certainly relate! But, it's only temporary and small price to pay for getting the smile I've always wanted.

Here's to you Stacey! I can't wait to see your progress!

Jana

I had a lower impacted wisdom tooth while in upper and lower braces. It went fine, no problems at all. I was worried it would make things difficult for the surgeon but I can say it seemed to go the same as it did when I had the other 3 taken out without braces.

Eurghhhh so what i was dreading has happened :( totally meh about it really

I POPPED A BRACKET OFF IN MY SLEEP AND SWALLOWED IT :'(

This was the bracket that wasn't connected to the arch wire and was situated on my blocked out incisor, the bracket kept catching on my lower tooth so I can only think i must have weakened the bond this way and then totally started grinding my teeth in my sleep :(

really gutted though as i have been really trying to look after this bracket as it wasn't connected up yet :(

So I just left a message for my ortho to see what he says, do i need to go in and have another bracket put on (even though it wasn't even connected to the wire yet and was just being a hassle) or can it wait till my next adjustment which is in september?

I must admit, i've had a bit of a cry about it, silly I know. It's just with the NHS if you have too many breakages, they deem you incompetent at looking after a brace and take it off you :( i know this is the first time, but i can't help thinking i'm going to be in braces for a long time yet and what if it happens again :(

pah.

Great start to my weekend...not.

However, the only positive is that it will make eating and cleaning easier for me next week when I'm off to London to watch the Olympic games with a certain electronics manufacturer, going to try and not let this bother me too much i guess.

Here's a picture of day 23...sans stupid swallowed bracket. Not much movement yet i guess. feeling rather disheartened

so just a quick update here after my appointment this morning...

They decided against putting the bracket back on, as i would probably end up biting it off and eating it again. Which is totally fine by me, as it was a royal pain in the bum anyway! :)

However sad face, they have put my next adjustment back now till october as they are waiting for the consultant to arrange my op to get the upper hidden wisdom tooth out....meh!

Sometimes i wish i had gone private to get my braces....

so after a mammoth wait for my next appointment, I finally got my bottom braces on today.

Bit sore at the moment, i know it's only going to get worse so i'm pre dosing with paracetomol and I have ibuprofen at the ready.

My ortho has also decided he wants some different teeth taking out, so just waiting for my oral surgery appointment to come through now! Going to have two uppers and an un-erupted upper wisdom tooth and a lower baby tooth taken out all in one go....I think I may have to opt for a general anaesthetic. Scary times!

Wow 3 months has passed since your uppers were put on-How has that gone?

I've had my uppers about 4 months and seen astonishing changes, hope you have too!

Look forward to seeing your next photos :-)
