Well, the Forsus saga continues.....Last night, I was brushing my teeth with an electric toothbrush and I don't know if the toothbrush got tangled in the Forsus or what...but next thing I know, the whole Forsus (on my left side) came apart and the rod started heading toward the drain in the sink!! I caught it just in the nick of time!

Anyway, I got it all back together and left a message at the ortho's. I think the little activator part went down the drain. :yikes:

I sure hope this isn't a $50 offense!! Then I guess I would need to remind them that I got the electric toothbrush from them! :gavel:

So, it will be back to the ortho--again....

That is one thing I've found throughout the braces journey. You never know when a problem of one sort or another will sneak up on you. I've only had one full 6 week period where I've gone without going in for something in between my official "visits".

I know you had just found the right adjustments for your forsus too... what a bummer.

Ya Jill--the adjustments had the Forsus to the point that it has been very tolerable--more than elastics--even though I would like to throw both into the sea--BAH BYEEEEeee...

Well, I finally had to put the rod into a small plastic sealed baggie. It won't stay on the archwire. And now I have a spring just hanging out--blowin' in the wind.. :singing: (The answer, my friend, is DEFINITELY NOT blowin' in the wind!)

Sooo, I have spent the last hour trying to tie the spring to the archwire with floss. (Online it shows how to do that--but even the person tying it has trouble--and she's using a model sitting on the table!!!) Anyway, the floss just worked it's way down to the end and came off. On top of that-- I cut my lip while using the scissors to cut the ends of the floss! Yeooowww! :soremouth: ...

OK so last week I bought some metal double pronged hot dog sticks for roasting hot dogs. They came with rubber tip covers for the sharp ends....see where this is going? :Questions: ...

So, I put one of the new rubber tips onto the end of the spring....the inside of the rubber tip is too big. Soooo, I put wax inside the rubber tip and then the end of the spring into the wax which is inside the rubber tip. So, that's where it's at now. I have the wax filled rubber tip of a hot dog stick on the end of the Forsus spring in my mouth...Ya, that's what I'm talkin about--doesn't get much better than this... :-+ :-+ :-+

And you know what!! If the ortho says let's just bag the Forsus...I'm going to fight him on it!!! I can feel it working, and for me that's the bottom line, and the only thing that matters..... :!: :!: :!:

Could you just make a huge cake of wax and bury in it? I'd be fearful of almost anything puncturing your gums during the night.

I know Iborg!! Until I put the rod in the little baggie, I thought I would swallow it and puncture my intestine! The Forsus works great--but it's just so much work!
I am REALLY glad that my job is right across the street from the ortho office!!!

Oh, Klo...

This really isn't a good week for us, is it? Your Forsus broke... Ellebraced lost a lig... and I'm going in this afternoon to have my broken bracket replaced. My recent hook I got on Friday didn't even last 1/2 a day before it leaned over and died. It's now perpendicular to my archwire; laying right on top of it, sticking out and poking me in the lip. I'm wearing a makeshift elastics config on the left side that I'm almost positive doesn't even exist in orthodontia-land. It's an upside-down "U". LOL

You are very, VERY fortunate that you work so close to your ortho's office. I'm pretty close myself (about 20 minutes or so, depending on traffic), so I'm taking the afternoon off to get this fixed. Not looking forward to having the bracket pried off and the glue sanded off. I'm sure I'll have a lovely headache this afternoon.

I'm DYING LAUGHING at your wax-filled rubber-tip of a hot dog stick! And they think we adults can't be resourceful!? Can't imagine a 12-year-old thinking of that contraption. Very proud of you for that!

Good luck to you!!!

Ya Cat--I am very lucky I work across the street from the ortho--I've been there so many times lately that all my vacation time would be taken up if it was further away!!

So, ya...I went back to the ortho yesterday  ...you know---it just keeps getting better and better....

Last week was my adjustment--isn't that enough until the next one??!!!! :Questions: :Questions: :Questions:

NOOOOOOO---so on top of putting it all back together, they decided to double activate that side!! What that means is that my jaw is FORCED (thus Forsus, I guess... ) more to the right. That is supposed to correct my bite and midline.
This bite and midline stuff is really getting to be a pain in the *ss!!

I still hate it when I see the names on the bulletin board that are getting debonded the days I go in....I don't even feel happy for them....I feel pure JEALOUSY!!!! Sooooo, there it is... I am evil

You know what though---I do feel happy for Catgyrl and others here that they are getting debonded soon. That's the truth. Probably because we have all felt each other's pain on a regular basis, and are encouraged that it does end....

Still---and I really mean it---I would not trade having braces for anything--it is one of the best decisions I have ever made!!!

Catgryl and Klobird Thank you for the laugh! I really needed it.. After having an adjustment today and having my molar buildup built up more, my teeth no longer touch, so i can't chew anything. I was kind of sad about going back on soft foods.. But the wax filled rubber hot dog tip and U shaped elastic.. really cracked me up. It makes you feel good knowing that you're not the only one dealing with the crazyiness that comes with braces. :)

AM21 - Glad I could amuse you! I think you have to let these things just roll off your back at some point, or else you'll get really depressed. When ortho was working on me yesterday, he said, "So, how was your weekend? It's been 3 whole days since I've seen you! You must just LOVE coming here. I can tell..." I like when he's in silly moods like that. It helps lighten me up, too.

Klo - I guess you're stocking up on the Advil now, huh? I can't imagine "double activation" must feel. "Forcing" things sounds painful. Bite and midline ARE a pain in the A$$! I'm so glad my midline is fine; but this bite is taking forever and a day.

I'm glad my ortho doesn't have a bulletin board with people's names on it who are being debraced. I'd feel jealous, just like you. However, think of it like this: You're so much farther along than people who are just about to get their braces on! This might sound a bit mean, but I felt a sense of relief as I was leaving yesterday because I saw someone who had just come in for her consultation and was going to call back to schedule her bracing. She's gonna have a LONG way to go. And you're already halfway there!!

OMG you are too funny!!!

Your comment.......
I still hate it when I see the names on the bulletin board that are getting debonded the days I go in....I don't even feel happy for them....I feel pure JEALOUSY!!!! Sooooo, there it is... I am evil

Just hilarious, I can just see you sitting there waiting looking at the sign and cursing those poor sweet, innocent children. :biglaf: :biglaf:

The day I got my good news a young girl was leaving and she must be getting them off soon and was super excited and I though you lucky little B&*&h, then I felt horrible for thinking that when I got my good news.

Good luck with that forsus thing, sounds scary, but your right if it works it works. Braces truly suck but just think one day we are going to go back to normal..... normal flossing, normal eating, normal smiling, normal thinking, normal bank accounts, normal internet blogging and searches ........ it better be worth it  It has been so long I forget how good normal was

Craziness with braces is right!! I was sailing right along, and then BAM!! --smacked right into the stuff that the ortho likes that I can't see happening at all....it was fun when I could see dramatic movement after each adjustment!

When I went in yesterday, a little girl about 12 or so was getting her debracing date--in July--she must have been brain dead or something because she didn't seem to care at all.
You're right Elle--little b*t*h doesn't even care...OK OK OK... I know that was really mean.  (well, not really embarrassed....).

Cat--I saw a guy in there who had the mouth opener thing and my 1st thought was ha ha--you're getting braces :singing: and then I thought--hmmm...maybe he just got them off...

My Forsus makes so much noise I can hardly think.

Hi
I'm new and I just wanted to thank you for sharing your braces story. I too have a big starting overjet and its so good to hear how quickly you were able to reduce yours (I'm hoping for similar results - I'm not braced yet).I'm nervous about dental treatment too so its good to read about someone who is so positive about it. Thanks

Hey Star!! Welcome!!

I am so glad you are taking the step--getting that overjet in seems to have been the easiest part--and getting the crooked teeth straight--and you can see the differences sooo fast! It's the bite junk and midline junk (that I could really care less about  --but the ortho seems to think it's a big deal  ) that is the boring stuff.

I think you will be so happy once you start seeing how braces can transform your smile--and then your confidence, etc etc...

And ya, if you ever need a dental phobia shoulder--here I am!!! (It was a long road, but I looooovvvveeee my "superdentist" that I have now--she is the whole reason I got braces! )

Thanks. So excited to begin my journey and get all the wonderful positives you talk about with confidence. I was just wondering if you were ever offered surgery to fix your overjet? I've been given both options (my overjet is 11mm!!!) but would much rather only braces (especially when I hear amazing results like yours!)

Love the sound of your superdentist, she sounds amazing!
