I'm 22 and will be getting my braces soon after my tooth extraction - which three of my teeth will be pulled (so nervous!!) soon. Couple of weeks ago, I had two molar bands on my upper molars and never had any problems with them. Yesterday I had my lower lingual arch. I didn't feel any discomfort after wearing it and had a normal lunch and dinner - rice, meat, vegetables, etc. This morning when I woke up, I feel quite painful when I bite on the lower molars where the bands are attached. I can't eat or chew anything. The only thing I had since this morning was plain water. Thinking of the painful eating made me lose my appetite.

Is there anybody out there who's wearing or have the experience or wearing lower lingual arch? How long does it takes for the pain to go away? And after the pain go away, can I eat normal food? Cause I read somewhere on the internet, it says don't eat hard or crunchy foods as it will damage the lingual arch.

hello Alcmore :) I am not sure if you will see this post as it was a while since you posted this, and I wish I had an answer to give you but really I have a question for you. I am getting the start of my lingual arch put in hopefully tuesday. Seperators in first, then a week later bands, then aweek after the arch goes in. This is all BEFORE i have my teeth extracted. Was your lingual arch fitted BEFORE teeth came out?? sorry I cannot help you out and I have heard that you will feel pain with it and i am sure it will subside, i hope!!

I have a lingual arch, and it's never bothered me much beyond the first day. I will have it until my lower braces go on, which should be in the next few months.

Hi Ca214 - did you need teeth extracted? did you have your lingual arch on before teeth were extracted or after? thank you :)

Hey there - my ortho is using the arch just to hold my lower teeth in place as he's moving my upper teeth. On the upper arch, I had an extraction and he's now moving teeth in that arch to close the extraction gap and correct my midline.
