So, I'm finally going to write down my story thus far. Yesterday I went to my Ortho's office to get my records done and to get my spacers in. I would have to say that the stuff that they make the molds with taste yucky, and its messy. The assistant got it all over my face, and when it dried I was flaking everywhere. So after all of the pictures, and molds were done, it was time for the spacers. Through reading and hearing different people's take on them, including my 11 year old niece, I thought they were going to hurt. They didn't hurt going in, but they took a bit of effort from the assistant to get them in. Through the rest of the day, they just felt annoying because I kept biting down and feeling them and flicking them with my tongue. I got a minor headache that night, but it didn't last long at all. I have to keep them in for 2 weeks until July 9th when I get all of my bands as well as my upper brackets.

Until next time, here's to hoping that I don't pop my spacers out.

Hi RHOyally Braced,

Welcome to AW!

I hope the spacers don't make you to sore. They say it usually takes a day or two before you really know if they are going to hurt or not.

Congrats on starting your journey! It's a good thing that you are doing for yourself.

Keep us posted! Ken.

Spacers still don't hurt, still feel annoying, although there was a little twinge when I tried to bite into an apple (cut up of course) other than that, I've been eating not really hard things, although I don't usually eat them anyway.

Has anyone else felt as if you are going to bite into the spacers. Everytime I bite down I think I'm going to snap them.

Ahhh, Finally getting a little twinge from the spacers. One of them fell out yesterday (only 5 days of 14) and I tried to put it back in because I couldn't make it to my ortho's office. (its in NJ, and I live in NYC). I believe that I put it in wrong, and now its stuck. Its not hurting or anything, but I just don't want the space to close because I still have another week to go.

Onto other news  I had my first food casualty yesterday. I tried to eat a toasted bagel, and it hurt lots and lots. I still finished it, but now I have to give them up for a while. Still have 8 days left until I get my brackets, as well as my mini vacation.

Until Next time.

I got my braces today!!! When I had my consult, the ortho said that I was only gonna get my uppers and all of my bands. Suprise, suprise when I get into the chair and he checks my bite, he figures that the bottoms will fit in the little space from my overjet. It actually does. For the moment I don't have any brackets on my back 2 lower molars or my 2 back upper molars. The bands wouldnt fit over my lower molars with the space that was made from the spacers, and the brackets that were glued on fell off, Also 2 of my upper brackets came off while I was in the chair, but eventually they got them on.

I was able to eat immediately after I got my braces on, but as I'm going through the day, I can feel them start to hurt, especially my bottom teeth.
So far I've been taking Ibuprofen, and drinking cool water. The only place that is cutting against my cheek are my upper bands.

I'll try to figure out a way to post pictures tomorrow.

Congrats on your brace day! Did you get some wax to stick on the pokies? Hope things are still going well and you're more comfortable than the first day :)

Ali, my Ortho gave me some wax. I used it for a few days, then stopped cuz I wanted to not be dependent on it, and it wasn't hurting. Now, I think my teeth are starting to move, so my hooks are rubbing on my cheeks.

I still haven't posted any pics, have to figure out how to do the image shack thing.

Other than that, I'm still on mostly soft foods. I can feel some of my teeth wiggling around when I bite down, does this mean that they are moving??. Hopefully I'll be able to eat more stuff soon. As far as brushing and flossing, I'm getting it down to a science. I learned that floss threaders are not cool, they take entirely way to long to work. On the other hand, I love the ones with the stiff point on the end, makes flossing like threading a needle. Because I have teeth that have not been bracketed yet, I am using both the ones with the point, as well as regular floss for my unbraced teeth. I take my old electric toothbrush with me, and I have one my dentist gave me for my perio issues that I use at home. My next appointment is in September, so we'll see what changes happen by then.

BTW I have regular metal braces with navy blue ligs. I look like I'm 12, but I'm gonna run with it and have fun.

First thing: I'm sooooo sorry that I haven't been able to post in a while. Real life has taken hold and I haven't been able to think much.

Anyway, its been 4 months and I just had my last adjustment on friday. The ortho did some IPR on some of my bottom teeth, which hurt like the dickens. I also have a small powerchain on the bottom and royal blue ligs again. Dear ortho hasn't changed my wire yet, and I still dont have bands on my bottom teeth, which he has said that he may or may not put them on.

There's been a lot of movement since July, on the top I actually have a small gap between my front 2 teeth, and some of the crowding has eased up. I'll try to post pics as soon as I can.

Pain wise, there's been some pain on and off, I just take some meds and I'm fine. I use the wax occasionally, but I try not to use it to toughen up the gums. My only concern is that I have some white spots on the bottom of my top teeth, hopefully it will come out when this is all over.

I promise it won't be 4 months before I post again.

FINALLY, I've got a full metal grin!!!

Had an appointment last Friday, where the ortho removed and replaced some of my brackets, and then put my bottom molar brackets on. I swear it felt like day one all over again. The pain went away after about a day or so, but now it feels funny to bite down because things are shifting again. In honor of Christmas, I got green ligs, so I feel a little christmas Tree-ey since they are bright but I love them. The gaps that I had from my IPR are closing, so lets see what happens in the next month. I'll also have them paid off next month, so that will be great. I go back in January, so lets see what happens.

Hello everyone!!!
Its been a while since I've updated my progress. I've gotten pretty far in my journey. Since December when I last posted, I've been in elastics to close my overbite, had some IPR to my 2 front teeth to make room for them to shift and move. I also had IPR on the bottom in order to not have to pull any teeth. I just had my ortho appt yesterday and now I'm working on closing my open bite that was created when I was wearing the elastics to clear my overbite.

Hopefully I won't have much longer to be in my braces. If I took them off now, they would look good. I

Hope to talk soon.
