I had double jaw surgery and get my bands and upper splint off next week (6 week appt).

Kind of wondering how well I will be able to talk. I talk HORRIBLY now, kind of wondering if it is because of the hardware or the numbness.

During my last appt I tried talking with the bands off and it was about the same. I am really hoping getting this splint out will help.

And advise? Thanks guys.

And when I say I'm getting my bands off I mean the rubber bands that have been holding my mouth shut.

Thanks!

In my case, I found that my speech improved 100% from being tightly banded to have the bands removed. I went from no one being able to understand a word I was saying, to being able to talk on the phone and be understood at the super-market and what-have-you.

THEN, I was uber-disappointed with the lack-of improvement when my splint was removed because my speech did not really improve much at all. I expected the splint to come out and to be able to speak totally normal again but I still sounded funny and could not really talk normally. Removing the split DID cut out the spitting and "slobery" talking *laughs* but expect your speech to be a little wacky for a month or so until your mouth gets used to moving rapidly again.

The debanding is fantastic though. So nice to get those off. Good luck.
