I had the very last bit of IPR that could possibly be done to correct a black triangle that was in-between my two top front teeth. It looks WAY better. However, there is still a teeny-tiny bit of it left (probably the size of a needle hole). I am sure it is only noticeable to me. I have to get really close to the mirror to see it, or be standing in a lot of light, but I can't help but be a little disappointed.
Is anyone else in the same boat (i.e., going to have to live with a few slight imperfections, such as mine or another type)?
I think they will look aesthetically well in the end. Better than before, but I wanted the movie start smile, know what I mean??? |

I have black triangles too. I haven't had them corrected yet but I think I will probably be in the same boat as you. The triangle between my front centrals is pretty significant. Given the shape of the teeth, the problem probably won't be 100% correctable. My lower front teeth are also really, really uneven. I know I can probably have them sanded down, but IDK....still contemplating that one. Never the less, I think I will be OK with some imperfections. I was not a movie star before orthodontics and I definitely won't be one afterwards. Anyway, I think having a few quirks with your smile makes you.....you.
Just curious, where are you in your treatment? I'm just wondering when this "black triangle correction procedure" takes place. |

If youhave triangular shaped teeth, receding gums/bone loss, etc then yo are more likely to have black triangle.
The doc wil make sure the roots are parallel to help minimize and IPR is used to reshape the teeth to be more trapezoidal. AS long as the contact of the teeth is within 5mm of teh bone crest the papilla wil fill in to get rid of the rest of the black triangle. _________________ Developer of:

| Doctor, are you saying that the gum could fill in the small area that is left or am I misunderstanding you? If that is possible, then I am thrilled. How long before that starts to happen? |

yep. if the contact of the teeth is within 5mm of the bone crest it will fill in. May take a few months but often quicker. If it is not within 5mm it will not fill in. Perhaps some more IPR can be done in that case. You cant always get enough with one pass. _________________ Developer of:

Dr. Rick,
Do you mean the triangles will fill in completely with papillae within a few monthsafter braces are removed (if contact is less than 5mm from bone crest). What if contact is further -- will it fill in partially?
I have very large teeth and the natural tooth shape creates black triangles. I also have slight recession. It would be helpful to know what the chances are if my gums filling in at all?
Everything I've read to date suggests they would not improve and your comments are the first to say otherwise. If you can point me to any references on this topic, I would appreciate it. _________________

Nearly 100% of the time if it is less than 5mm will fill in.
More and may partial fill in but not al the way.
Tooth shape (triangular) and recession are a factor -- makes it harder to get within the 5mm.
There is a 'rule' for this but I always forget the name (It start with a p I am almost certain) If you google it there is a fair amount of info on it. _________________ Developer of:

Do you mean 0.5mm??
5mm seems like an enormous space between teeth. |

No he's talking about the height of the black triangle when there are not gaps between teeth. Contact point would be point of triangle, where teeth start to touch. A bit hard to see exactly where the bone crest is, but it's somewhere under the gum where teeth are going into bone. _________________
