I now have braces! I had overcrowding and needed to get 4 teeth pulled out beforehand. I got two out a week ago and the other two three weeks ago. I didn’t have any problems with any of them. Huzzah!

My B-day went smoothly. My boyfriend had a cold but was a trouper and got out of bed to drive me to the ortho. It was painless to get the braces on. Felt a little awkward with all the stuff holding my mouth open. The staff were very nice which made the experience go well for me.

I managed to eat a nice soft piece of fish for dinner the day I got them on. It took me 40minutes to finish it though!

On day two they hurt a little more. It didn’t stop me from going out though. I went to Carols in the Domain and had a fun day and danced to the wiggles. I bought chocolate mouse with me and some V8 vegetable juice. One of my friends made mars bar slice (which I know from past experience is very yummy) but I was good and resisted.

It's day three now and they still hurt quite a bit. I'm hoping it will feel a bit better after a few more days. I may be eating lots of Brandy Custard for Christmas!

Scrambled eggs, protein shakes from the gym and Nurofen plus are my new best friends at the moment.

Here is a photo taken about and hour after I got them put on:

My next appointment is in 9 weeks. I have to get more stuff put on the back teeth. At the moment I only have the braces around the front up to where the gaps in my teeth are. He said they need to straighten up a bit first and then we can attach it to the back teeth to start closing the gap. Well, he said it more technically than that :p

Hi Brenda,

Welcome to AW! Glad to have you here!

Congrats on starting your brace journey by introducing yourself! It good to start your story and have a place to keep your progress pix too.

Your teeth sure will be tender for a few days, but you are doing the right thing by eating and not letting the braces change the way you are living. You should be used to your new hardware soon and sometimes forget you even have them.

Sounds like you're off to a good start and keep a good attitude as well.

Best of Luck! Ken

Welcome!

I always hated eating after I have an adjustment done the day before. I find it takes a few hours for the pain to kick in straight after an adjust. so I tend to eat my dinner as soon as I get out of my ortho office since my appointments are usually in the after noon.

Soup and ice cream are wonderful in the days after an adjustment!
