Does IPR hurt, or do they use anesthesia?
Re: 6 month smile journey
No, it's a bit uncomfortable, but no pain. Every time I've had it done I have been tense and wanting it to hurry up, but thats more because of the sideways force used, along with the quiet but audible grinding/sanding noise, not because of any pain.ntnch1776 wrote:Does IPR hurt, or do they use anesthesia?

how are things going?, i hope your latest adjustment was kind to you.
Re: 6 month smile journey
During the last 6 weeks the treatment has gone backwards but has very recently (in the last few days) returned to how it was prior to those 6 weeks.
A wire had come out ever so slightly on one of my top front teeth which lead to it moving out of alignment. As soon as I noticed this I contacted my dentist who was actually on holiday and the next appointment wouldn't be for 2 weeks (even if I went with another dentist)! I waited which meant that it went out of alignment even more. The wire also came out of the rear metal supporting bracket during this time which also didn't help. I also had an issue with a wisdom tooth coming through at the bottom and leading to some swelling for a few days but this went away.
I finally saw my dentist on Friday who reattached the bracket and the wire and tightened everything up for me. He was actually hoping to take them off that week but this will now be delayed for a week or two at least.
Today (3 days later) the tooth quickly (and quite painfully) moved back into alignment and it now looks quite similar to how it did when I last updated. I'm not sure if anything else can be done using this type of treatment so I'm happy to move ahead with taking them off as soon as the dentist suggests it. I will then have to proceed with lengthening one of my front incisors to match the other one and whitening my teeth to finish it off.

I'm a bit confused at to how your teeth are going to be stable when they come out of the brackets?
It's also very poor form of the clinic to not get you an appointment for over two weeks. They can fit you in. Now you have to spend longer in the dentists chair and their profits have gone down.

I agree, it doesn't fill me with much hope if they can move back that quickly. But I believe the fixed retainer that is glued into position behind the front 6 teeth will prevent them from moving once the brackets are all off, without this they would almost certainly all move again.
I will certainly bring this all up at the next appointment for reassurance.

I dont want to be all doom and gloom but unless you are seeing an ortho (specialist, he just sees patients for braces) you are wasting your time.louis wrote:I agree, it doesn't fill me with much hope if they can move back that quickly. Do you not question by the likes of me and the rest of this forum are spending 2 years in braces and you are getting out the door in half the time?
I hope you are seeing a proper ortho, not a dentist who wants to make quick money.

Having them out on Friday
Re: 6 month smile journey
Scratch that, instead of taking them off, he wanted to make one more adjustment to my top insisor which will take roughly one more week to finalise. For now it looks like the following Friday.
